Does the Navy give awards for Throwing Men Overboard? For Distinguished Stabbing the Military in the Back? For Meritorious Slander?
U.S. Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., certainly qualifies more for those than he does the Distinguished Public Service Award outgoing Navy Secretary Donald Winter bestowed on him earlier this month.
Murtha went beyond the call of duty in slandering U.S. Marines and sailors when he said in 2006 that they had rampaged through Haditha, Iraq, and murdered civilians "in cold blood." He slandered our troops in a time of war.
Of the eight he accused, six had their cases dismissed, one was found not guilty and the last one is still pending.
Some 35,000 online petitioners think he should take back his slanderous statements -- or have the medal taken back.
We agree. It's a disgrace.

Of course, absolutely, without doubt, the military, ivestigating it's own, in the BUSH administration, would NEVER falsely acquit it's own members in order to not tarnish it's image. I'd be willing to bet that there are 10 times more people who admire Murtha than admire the idiots you support. Chronicle, you and all your editorialists are idiots.
Some may think the same of you, is name calling really needed? As a veteran I would never put our military down, they are under paid and over worked. Have some respect for those who protect us and our freedoms.

John Muirtha should have been voted out of office a long time back and Donald Winter should never have have been promoted way past his highest level of incompentence.
John Murtha is the crazy uncle kept in the attic. Since he is a veteran maybe we should overlook his senile rants. The old guys in the Georgia Veterans Home are more with it than him.
