AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Tob Thadys Mixon, of Mike Padgett Highway in Augusta, died on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at University Hospital. He was 85 years old. The visitation and viewing will be at the residence, 3855 Mike Padgett Highway, Augusta, on Thursday, March 26, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church, 4233 Old Waynesboro Road, Hephzibah. Rev. Robert Driggers and Rev. J.D. Turner will officiate. They will be assisted by Rev. Gary Cobb, Rev. Dwayne Carter, and Rev. Jerry Wilson. Committal, with United States Marine Corp Honors, will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Rodney Cobb, Mitchell Kight, Darryl Mixon, Joe Frost, Chris Mixon, and Charlie Mixon. Honorary pallbearers serving are Jack Mixon, Jim Frost , Vincent Lumley, Randall Lumley, Larry Lumley, Charles Kight, Vernon Kight, Buddy Dowd, James Mixon, Billy Mixon, G.L. Mixon, and Jerry Mixon. Mr. Mixon is survived by his wife, Teresa Lawson Mixon; his sons, Duane Mixon of Augusta, Dave "Buster" Mixon and his wife, Virgie, of Augusta; his daughters, Judy E. Mixon and her husband, G.L., of Wake Forrest, North Carolina; and Terri Mixon Wright and her husband, Ronnie, of Augusta; his fourteen grandchildren, Tina Widgeon McIntyre, Sean Cowan, Amy Kennedy, Mark Long, April Stokes, Darrell Mixon, Brook "Sissy" Mixon, Keith Krooss, Tim Krooss, Josh Mixon, Angel Pinson, Stormi Mixon, and Blazzee Mixon; his brothers and sisters, Leo Mixon Malone of Durham, North Carolina; Roberta Mixon Urbanski of Savannah; R.C. Mixon of Durham, Evelyn Mixon Bryant of Southaven, Mississppi; Jack Edward Mixon and his wife, Bernice, of Atlanta, and Hazel Mixon Exley and her husband, Charles, of Pooler, Georgia. Mr. Mixon was a native of Toombs County. He graduated from G.A.B. Business College with a business degree. He was a member of Pine Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Mixon was active with the Junior Achievement Community Services and a member of the board of directors of Triple C Credit Union. He served in the United States Marine Corp during WWII in Guam, Marianas Islands. He received a good conduct medal and an Honorable Service Ribbon. Mr. Mixon, who was wounded, received his honorable discharge with the rank of Corporal Rifleman. He was retired from Continental Can Company after 22 years of service and for over 40 years was self-employed with Mixon Printing Company. He was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
