4th student is charged in Butler bomb threats
A fourth student has been charged with calling in bomb threats to Richmond County schools.
Fakeem Christopher Brown, 17, of the 3500 block of Andover Drive in Hephzibah, was arrested Monday and charged with transmitting a false public alarm, a felony, according to Richmond County jail records.
Three other Butler High School students were arrested during the weekend. Nine bomb threats were made in one week against Butler by people calling 911.
Police seek men in weekend robberies
Three armed robberies occurred in Aiken County during the weekend, and one ended with the arrest of a juvenile.
The first incident took place Saturday night when the 16-year-old, whose name wasn't released because of his age, pointed a gun at a cab driver and took his money, said Aiken County sheriff's Capt. Troy Elwell. Using the county's bloodhound team, police located and arrested the teen.
Authorities are still looking for men in two other robberies Sunday night.
Capt. Elwell said a man entered the Guest House Inn on South Carolina Highway 19, demanded money and fired into the wall.
In the other robbery, Capt. Elwell said a man at the Circle K on Jefferson Davis Highway implied he had a gun. He described the man as black, wearing a tan fishing hat, blue jeans and a green jacket.
Man gets 5 years in prison for molestation
A 43-year-old Augusta man who twice impregnated a teenage special education student pleaded guilty Monday to child molestation.
Eric Washington entered his plea in Richmond County Superior Court. Judge Sheryl B. Jolly sentenced him to five years in prison followed by 15 years on probation.
Assistant District Attorney Hank Syms said DNA tests revealed Mr. Washington was the father of the teen's two babies, the first conceived when she was 15 and the second when she was above the age of consent.
Woman hits Columbia County deputy's car
A Grovetown woman collided with a Columbia County sheriff's deputy Monday in Martinez, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputy Chris Burnett was traveling east on Washington Road about 10:30 a.m. when his car was struck by a vehicle driven by Dawn Rogers, of the 100 block of Langston Drive, as she tried to turn left onto Columbia Road, according to an e-mail from sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris.
No one was injured, he said.
Ms. Rogers was charged with failure to yield right of way.
Water, sewer meeting postponed
A public hearing scheduled for next Monday on Avondale Mills' application for new water and sewerage charges in Graniteville has been postponed.
The meeting was to take place at 6 p.m. at Byrd Elementary School. According to a news release Monday from the Public Service Commission of South Carolina, a new date for the hearing must now be determined.
Avondale Mills wants to increase water rates to a base $8 fee at a usage rate of $4.50 per 1,000 gallons. Sewer customers would see rates increase to a base fee of $6 and a usage rate of $6.50 per 1,000 gallons. For more, visit www.psc.sc.gov and refer to docket 2008-460-WS.

A grown man having sex with a special education student says a lot about his mentality and morals. Obviously, he was in a position to take advantage of this young lady, but doing so puts him in the lowest criminal class there is. He is no better than a rapist, which in actuality is what he is. As for the 16 year old who robbed the cab driver at gunpoint, His name and picture should be in every newspaper and on every television station in the CSRA.
Shame on the Judge, too, for giving such a light sentence.
Now there is a difference between this guy and the person that might be looking at porn in his own home. Yes, this guy needs what California does. Makes the guy go in to the State Hospital and be on the waiting list for the Sexual Preditor courses. This is a 2-3 yrs class. But there is a 3-5 yr waiting list. When the Preditor comes out of the class the judge turns around and says Since the preditor is the most likely to repeat he offence. The judge then will say, he is a danger to others and commits him back to the state hospital.
But let's now put everyone in this category. What about the guy that has sex with his 17 yr girl friend and he just turned 18? Or the kid that touches the girl inappropatley? Or the old man that got caught reading a pron magizine, 40 yrs ago, yes they were illegal then and in some places still are.

The 43 year old man that impregnated the 15 year old girl should have been charged for Statutory Rape since the girl was only 15 the first time this happened. And since 17 is the age now of adult consent he should have also been given another sentence since she was a special education child. I'm sure that there was many more times he took advantage of this girl, she just didn't get pregnant. Judge Jolly , what if this had been your daughter?? Five years for impregnating a 15 year old special education proves the justice system is broken. The judge and Eric Washington should have to share the same cell for the rest of their miserable lives.
"Special Education student" does not necessarily mean "mentally retarded." She may have a learning disability but not be incapacitated. Quit reading things into the little blurb. Where were the parents after the first pregnancy?
If she has special needs, how can they claim she was past the age of consent. This is a sick man. It is well known that many special needs children are hyper sexual and to take advantage of that is nothing but a selfish sick act.

I think there is more to the story than what is said here- usually child molestation is 10 years, minimum, in RC. And her disability may not be mental retardation.
