AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Aubrey Smith Durden, beloved husband of 59 years to Mrs. Angel Albertson Durden, entered into rest on Sunday, March 22, 2009, at University Hospital. A service of remembrance will be held 2PM, Tuesday, March 24, 2009, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Columbia Road Chapel. Military honors will be accorded by the ceremonial detachment of Fort Gordon. Mr. Durden was a deacon emeritus with Gracewood Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Sergeant First Class, with 20 years of service and serving during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife; children and their spouses, Connie (Leonard) Bernard, Leesburg, Va., Gwen (Bob) Lane, Appling, James O. (Carol) Durden, Beech Island S.C., Debbie (Mark) Baxley, Charleston, S.C., Patricia Durden and Pamela Freeman, both of N. Augusta, S.C.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 4255 Columbia Road, Martinez, GA 30907.
