Hooray! Spring marches in today

People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring.

Spring is aptly named.

It arrives today in a hurry. Blossoms are blooming, and trees that looked bare just last weekend are showing green.

All the other months take their own sweet time, but not spring.

It's here.

Today.

WEATHER REPORT: Masters Week is almost here, too. The Old Farmer's Almanac says it will start off wet, then finish sunny and warm for the final rounds. It came up with this prediction almost a year ago. Let's see how it plays out.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: My wife and I had words, but I didn't get to use mine.

IN MEMORIAM: My thoughts and prayers go to the family of Augusta artist Will Fahnoe, who died Monday.

I first met him 30 years ago when this newspaper sent me to write a feature on a successful artist who had been a college football player.

We were the same age, although he was blessed with more talent.

I last talked to him as we both stood at the edge of a local driving range, watching our sons hit golf balls.

Just two old guys -- sharing the same moment and the same age and the same name.

He was the taller, talented one.

TODAY'S JOKE: The always remarkable Robert Symms shares this one today.

It seems two old guys are pushing their carts around Wal-Mart when they collide.

The first old guy says to the second, "Sorry about that. I'm looking for my wife, and I guess I wasn't paying attention."

The second old guy says, "That's OK, it's a coincidence. I'm looking for my wife, too. I can't find her, and I'm getting a little desperate."

The first old guy says, "Well, maybe I can help you find her. What does she look like?"

The second old guy says, "Well, she is 27 years old, tall, with red hair, blue eyes, long legs, and is wearing short-shorts. What does your wife look like?"

"Don't remember," the first old guy says, "let's look for yours."
