The America most of us knew as children has been turned on its head.
Today, we even have a speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives -- third in line to the presidency -- who says enforcing immigration laws is "un-American," and that illegal immigrants are "very patriotic."
Meanwhile, a true patriot -- Maricopa County, Ariz., Sheriff Joe Arpaio -- is actually being investigated by Washington for having the audacity to enforce the very immigration laws that Washington has failed to enforce.
There you have it. Someone who is trying to protect our border and the integrity of American immigration laws is treated as a criminal, while one of the top officials in our government is praising illegal aliens as "very patriotic."
These, quite simply, are not the actions of a nation that wants to continue being a nation for very long.
In a rant reminiscent of Democratic attacks on U.S. soldiers, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently told a group including illegal immigrants that, essentially, she was on their side -- not on America's side.
"Who in this country would not want to change a policy of kicking in doors in the middle of the night and sending a parent away from their families?" Pelosi told the group. "You are special people. You're here on a Saturday night to take responsibility for our country's future. That makes you very, very patriotic."
Speaker Pelosi holds a clear contempt for our laws and our security as a nation. She has no business holding high office.
Nor does Washington have any business questioning the actions of Sheriff Arpaio -- not when he's doing the job Washington won't do.
Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., and others are using the U.S. Department of Justice as a weapon to try to intimidate people such as Arpaio who believe in the rule of law and protecting our borders. It is very much a witch hunt.
But Sheriff Arpaio is merely the start. They want to intimidate and silence anyone who believes in securing our borders.
This isn't about a renegade sheriff in Arizona. This is about using the heavy hand of the U.S. Department of Justice to shut down border enforcement.

I have been long wondering for how much longer Sheriff Joe could continue his policy of not coddling inmates before it would be contested by federal authorities. But. don't worry, Sheriff Joe is no Pete Fletcher; Joe'll fight to defend The Public Welfare.
Sheriffs in Georgia could emulate Sheriff Arpaio enforcing our immigration laws. Didn't the law pass that companies doing business with the state government must not employ illegals? Who monitors compliance? Why can't local law enforcement investigate if there are suspected violations?
Sheriff Arpaio made statements that gave the impression he was targeting Mexicans or people of color. He, much like sheriffs across the country use their positions to further their political views. Anyone unaware of that fact is a liar. The hard part is to cleverly disguise such action into something that looks legal. Arpaio has failed to do that, so he must demonstrate what he meant by what he said. That's the law. Based on a history of violence and murder of peolpe of color, by the so-called law, there are specific groups of American that are "protected." Women, African-Americans, and most non-white legal Americans are protected from being a target of violence and unlawful detention based on their gender or color. So we got mostly non-minority men (the sheriffs) sworn to uphold laws that secretly they don't really embrace, so they act out like ol' Arpaio. He will be removed and made out to be a disgrace because of abuses of his office. He overstepped his authority and the Feds are going to remind him who exactly is the Boss.
Sheriff Arpaio is a true hero, and he is only enforcing the current laws. Pelosi and all of the other detractors should be expelled in disgrace from their lofty perches, and placed in Arpaio's jail encampment and be served up the moldy bread and green bologna sandwiches along with the watered down Kool Aid. Keep up the good work Sheriff Arpaio, and we will vote in a true American leader for you in the next election and send packing the mulatto muslim messiah!

The borders need to be shut down. Not only because of the drain the illegals put on the law-abiding tax-paying citizens, but also because about 90% of an illegal substance comes through the border. Enforce the laws!

justus4....As usual your logic is flawed. Arpaio cannot arrest white Americans for being illegal aliens. He cannot arrest white Americans for crimes they did not commit. Seems to me that no one has accused him of arresting anyone who did not violate the law. I see his tent jail on TV and there seems to be plenty of white people in there that DID violate the law. Seems to me that bleeding heart liberal like you want to persecute Arpaio because he does his job successfully. He arrests criminals and IF they are illegal aliens he turns them over to ICE AFTER they serve their time. He enforces the LAW. I wish we had more like him. I was recently in an auto accident in NC. An illegal alien rear ended me at a stop light. He was illegal, no license, not his car, no insurance. I was forced to produce all documentation. They gave him a citation and the officer told me they knew he would not come to court because they had dealt with him before. I asked why they did not detain him. The answer was "department policy". I was told that if I had no license, no insurance my car would have been towed and I could have been detained. He drove off while they were checking me for warrants. Arpaio rules!

want cheap labor.I got a new roof recently, and the workers were Mexicans who spoke very little English.They are good workers and will work for less. I asked one who spoke some English how much they made hourly and he said, "The crew chief had the contract with the roofing company and he paid them 2 dollars above the law"--I think he was talking about the minimum wage.

Forget about "Justus"; he has drawn you away from the topic the letter addressed: illegal immigration and Congress' refusal to enforce US laws. I find it amazing a lawmaker can legally get away with not enforcing laws. Besides, Pelosi (D, Mars) has repeatedly shown where here true allegiance lies.
Riverman: In Columbia County they recently just passed an ordinance that requires sworn affidaivits from the Contractor & Subcontractors; to be a part of the contract re: immigration. My husband was working on a site a few months back, and the INS came to the site and as soon as they pulled up- the illegals scattered like roaches, they lost about 50 men that day, but the remaining workers on the site sure did have a good laugh.
On Monday nights there is a show called Homeland Security. It portrays (kinda like Cops and AMW) day to day events that happen at the border and the border patrol that lead into the US from Cananda and mexico. I learned that Canada requires a $15,500 entry fee to become a citizen. When you get there, they do a background check after you have paid the required fee, if you are a convicted felon they won't let you in AND they keep the money. Wicked good program.
