Wreck causes power outage for six hours

About 600 Harlem residents went without power for about six hours Monday when a power pole snapped after a wreck. No one was injured in the wreck, which occurred just after 6 a.m.

Willie Edwards, 60, of North Augusta, was driving a 2008 GMC Sierra K3500 truck pulling a gooseneck trailer on Harlem-Grovetown Road.

He told police he did not see the stop sign at Harlem-Grovetown Road in time to stop the John Deere company vehicle, Harlem Department of Public Safety Officer Bryan Addenbrook said.

Mr. Edwards made a left turn onto Harlem-Grovetown Road but veered wide, striking the power pole and a mailbox.

Power was restored by noon, a Georgia Power Co. spokesman said.

Plan for James Brown competition takes form

Augusta-Richmond County Coliseum Authority member Johnny Hensley expounded on his plan for a James Brown impersonator competition Monday, saying he would like to see it held Feb. 3-5, 2011, and titled "3TG: Tribute to the Godfather."

Mr. Hensley called a meeting of the Marketing, Entertainment and Public Relations committee, of which he's chairman, but no other members showed up.

So he shared his ideas with authority Chairman Richard Isdell and Kayla Ott, marketing director for civic center complex management company Global Spectrum.

Mr. Hensley said he envisions finalists performing in James Brown Arena with Mr. Brown's backup band, The Soul Generals, and his former master of ceremonies, Danny Ray.

"Mr. Hensley called a meeting of the Marketing, Entertainment and Public Relations committee, of which he's chairman, but no other members showed up." This kind of says it all, doesn't it? Let's get serious folks, it's time to replace these bozos.

It's time to get rid of the A-RCCA and focus the Public's attention and devote its energies to some of greater Augusta's really important issues such as a historically corrupt judiciary, a government-teat-addicted economy, and historically substandard public educational systems.

Little Lamb

It's time to abolish the Coliseum Authority and hand control of the Civic Center and Auditorium over to city government.

It would appear that the only way to get rid of these buffons is for us all to take action, and boycott the center. Kind of drastic, but if we don't show displeasure in that way the facility will continue to operate as is. Maybe by Boycotting they will run out of money and the phoenix will rise stronger from the ashes of that failure. I will say though, I kind of like Mr Hensleys idea and it is the first time an idea has come out this year. We named the center after James, lets continue to build on our cellebration of his name, or rename it to something else.
