The Wolfpack knocked off Dunwoody 5-1 and Atlanta's St. Pius X 2-1. Greenbrier is 8-0, but it has played only two area teams (Hephzibah, Richmond Academy).

Aquinas, after beating Our Lady Of Mercy 6-2 on the tournament's final day, is 8-0-1. Its only non-win is a 1-1 tie with Evans.

Aquinas and Greenbrier are scheduled to meet April 14, two days after the Masters Tournament ends. Three of the Wolfpack's final four games will come against area teams.

HEALTHY START: Westside's baseball team is on top of Region 3-AAAA, having beaten Cross Creek, Hephzibah and Richmond Academy.

The Patriots' lone loss is a 9-7 setback to Screven County, which reached the Class AA state quarterfinals last year. They are the only undefeated team left in region play. Harlem, Lakeside and Evans all have one loss.

BUSY WEEK: Greenbrier has scored 24 runs in its first two Region 2-AAAAA baseball games, both wins. It will play two more region contests and two games against area South Carolina teams this week.

The Wolfpack, 5-2 with a pair of two-run losses to Harlem and Evans, will play host to South Aiken on Thursday and play at North Augusta on Saturday.

South Aiken dropped its first two region games, including a 6-3 loss to defending state champion Brookland-Cayce. North Augusta should enter the meeting having won all five of its region games.

WORTHY CHAMPS: Turns out the road to two state basketball titles went through Augusta.

The Richmond Academy boys and the Laney girls ended up losing state basketball semifinals to the eventual champion. Their opponents cruised to state titles two days later.

Miller Grove, which defeated Richmond Academy by 15 points, blew out Tucker 59-31 in the Class AAAA final.

Richmond Academy got as close as two points to Miller Grove three times in the fourth quarter of their semifinal.

Buford, which beat the Laney girls by 26 points, mauled Model 66-35 in the Class AA final for its first championship under coach Gene Durden, an Edmund Burke Academy graduate.

ALL-STATE TEAMS: The state's sportswriters association will release its all-state basketball teams by the middle of next week.
