In a recent news article, Georgia Senate President Pro Tem Tommie Williams says state employees may be furloughed to balance the budget.
The question is, why can't elected people take a pay cut for a change?
I wonder how many excuses will be made.

Our state senators and reps have voted to take cuts in the past. With the exception of the Speaker-of-the-House, these "part-time" legislators make about $17,000 a year, plus a per diem to cover room and board during session. They spend months away from their families and their businesses, so exactly how much of that salary would you like them to forfeit?
Most don't take a pay cut, but some have..I remember when Shirley Franklin became mayor she took a $40k pay cut; I don't know if state officials have, but state legislators don't make much money, and I hope nobody expects them to legislate for free, they have to support their families too.. Colco is right, $17k is their salary, and to me that small amount of money is probably why some take bribes and make less than transparent side deals and investments...Its, unfortunate, but true..You got a person making $17k from the state(most have businesses and other ways of earning, but most aren't rich)with the power to shape GA, meeting lobbyist from multi-million $ corporations, who make sure they get the best game tickets, play the best holes, and experience the finest perks...Do the math...
Well...at least we know motordude's price...and moral compass
If leaders took a pay cut then the workers probably wouldn't have to take one ... and where is the fairness in that? Elected leaders run for office because they know they can raise their own salaries and there are those "fringe benefits".
The same reason the top executives at corporations would rather keep a bonus and lay off regular employees...big new boat for them versus food and shelter for the regular man. Its the American way.
Some state employees are already being furloughed one or two days a month. This has been going on for 4 months at my wife's
office which is GA Dept. of Human Resources.
Look at what we did to the staff of Golf and Gardens. Another fine example of some, not all, of our elected buffooonnns not knowing or caring about anything but themselves.
