Teen dies after early-morning wreck
An Augusta teen is dead after a car crash Saturday morning.
Victor Hugo Martinez, 17, of the 2500 block of Center West Parkway, died at Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics after suffering injuries from the wreck, said Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen.
Mr. Martinez was in the back seat of a 2001 Ford Explorer at 4:55 a.m. when the driver, Daniel Gonzalez, 23, of the 2500 block of Center West Parkway, hit a median and flipped about three times, less than a block away from their home. Mr. Bowen said no one in the car was wearing a seatbelt.
Mr. Gonzalez and the front seat passenger left the scene. Sheriff's deputies later found Mr. Gonzalez and arrested him, said Cpl. Gary Jones. Authorities charged him with homicide by a vehicle in the first degree, driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, open container of alcohol and other traffic violations. An autopsy will be performed Monday.

Why can't people wear their seatbelts when they are going to drink. Better yet, when will they learn to drive. To flip 3 times when you hit a median requires speed. Check their "green card" and deport them if possible. Find justus4 and deport him to Swaile, just cause.

Nice 'friends' to leave someone there dying and flee the scene. At least they found the driver. What about the other passenger that fled? Sounds like the two survivors have no conscious whatsoever. Learn not to drink and drive!

You say "Why can't people wear seat belts when they are going to drink". I say "Why can't people not drive, if they are going to drink?" or "Why can't people not drink, if they are going to drive?". Tequila and cars are a deadly combination!
Just what does a 23 year old have in common with a 17 year old at 4:00 in the morning? I would say drugs or gangs. I wonder how long it will be before mama comes out on TV saying how great a child he was? I would be sympathetic to the mama if she was acting like a responsible mother of a 17 year old, but I just don't feel any compassion for this kid as the story is written. All I can say is thank god an innocent person wasn't hurt.

Why? They could have just as easily got into a head on with somebody working a late shift and killed them. I don't feel sorry for them at all. They got what they asked for. This is Darwin at work, at least they only hurt themselves. Well, now the other two will end up end jail, which we'll have to pay for.
Thank you 3572. As for some of the other comments, you all ought to be ashamed of yourselves for saying heartless things about these people. You have no idea what the circumstances are with this young man's family. As for you i.b.e.w..electric, you should really be ashamed, predjudice is a nasty thing, how would you feel if someone said something like that about your child or family member? There were no gangs nor drugs involved, just 3 young men that made a tragic mistake. Some of you are so quick to pass judgement on others without knowing the whole story. Just because you see hispanic names you talk about green cards and throwing bodies across the border, these are very horrible and hurtful things to say about someone that just lost their life, try to place yourself in this family's shoes they are in a tremendous amount of pain now. Some of these comments are just sickening, hateful and racist. You should all be in prayer for this family and the young man in jail, he made a tragic mistake that he will have to live with his whole life. Also they didn't flee the scene, they panicked and tried to go get help. I hate to think my fellow americans feel this way.
