Doris Jones, this LTE is just another bigoted effort to keep the black man down. Wealth redistribution DEMANDS these fine Americans live in you neighborhood and behave in any manner they wish....on your dime. Pay your taxes and quit whining.
We moved into our home in a beautiful neighborhood with quiet and enjoyable surroundings. For many years, families enjoyed rearing t heir children together, having them catch the bus and attend school without fear.
As many couples became older and children left home, homes went up for sale. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, with Section 8 housing, selected our street and area into which to move low-income families. This would not have been a problem -- except that instead of lifting up standards and lifestyles, most new homeowners brought their degenerate values with them.
There are multiple families in one home without a father figure -- or, if there is one, there is no guidance. These residents roam the streets in gangs day and night. They all seem to know one another, and congregate in groups to smoke marijuana and use other drugs together. Loud music with dirty lyrics blares forth, as they repeat four-letter words themselves. Shots often are fired, houses are trashed and yards are unkempt with litter. The opportunity to attend school often is ignored.
My Christian faith teaches me to accept and be tolerant, but it is hard to respect those who have no respect for themselves or others.
Unless there is a new beginning, Augusta will continue to drag itself down to a city of low morals and ghettos. Augusta leaders need to send a message, when outsiders come to settle our problems, that we want a city of content, not discontent. Leadership cannot be just one man or woman; it has to be entire families making changes. If we want change in America, change begins in the home, right here in Augusta.

Too much trash... white and black.. in Augusta... no thank you! I'm quite happy here in Evans, where ppl take pride in what they have. Leave the trash in Augusta.
If justus gets his way we won't need no fathers. Talk to the test tube! It's science, Baby!
HUD is the destroyer of neighborhoods and houses. Another social welfare program that eats money, destroys working peoples lives and the value of their homes, and leaves nothing good in it's wake. I feel for you Doris. This HUD experiment is a dismal failure and should be stopped. Moving scum into a decent neighborhood does not help the scum, and it hurts many many more decent hard working people who invested good money in their property. And here comes the guv'ment and plops down a sorry bunch of non-working welfare and food stamp drawing scum into your neighborhood with the heathen bastard teenagers. They destroy the house the guv'ment put them in and they destroy the value and the environment of everything around them. When will we learn that these kind of people never have any respect for something that is given to them. Put them in a tent behind barbed wire for a while and when they find a job and can rent a house or apartment they will appreciate it. Section 8 housing will kill every neighborhood in Augusta so there is no hope. The scum suckers will keep sucking us until we are dry. Then what will they do? Oh I forgot. Obama will just lower the "rich" standard and raise taxes
First, I want to say I did not write this letter, but I could have - nearly word for word! I'm making an educated guess she lives in an area in between Regency Mall, Deans Bridge, Thomas Lane and last side of the area being Wheeless, or Golden Camp, or Lumpkin Road. That area seems to be ground zero for those kinds of problems. At least that is what I observed when I lived within a mile of Villa Europa and Hillcrest Baptist Church. It used to be a great place to live, but when even the firemen and police officers are fleeing the area and heading for Grovetown to live, you know you have problems.
Doris A. Jones' letter on the decline of the area she has lived in and loved for decades is exactly what should be said and very well-written. I want to thank Ms. Jones for writing it like it is. If we don't face the problems, nothing will improve.
hud did not chose they offered and the landlords accepted, i feel sorry for you but the key is in the enforcement and writing rules that kick off tenants and landlords who do not live in a nbhrhd no matter its location in a civilized manner. if the aug housing auth would enfore the rules that it has and develop more effective personal conduct rules for the parents and the trifling good for nothing children the section 8 program could be the bridge tht would lead the less fortunate but responsible individuals up into the middle class.
Yes, "if".
