Group hopes to net more tennis players

The CSRA Tennis Association will offer free lessons this month for adults at the Newman Tennis Center.

"We are simply trying to give adults greater exposure to tennis," said Dick Hatfield, the center's director and an association board member. "Hopefully, they will become interested and stay with it and get involved in the many tennis programs offered in this area."

Free lessons will be offered March 21, 24, 26, 31 and April 2. Ages 18 and older can sign up for one free lesson, he said.

The lessons will be taught by tennis professionals from the Newman Tennis Center, West Lake Country Club, Petersburg Racquet Club, Riverview Park and Jones Creek.

The association has sponsored free tennis lessons since 1992; however, this is the first time all the free lessons will be in one location, Mr. Hatfield said.

"We felt that by bringing everyone together in larger groups, we would be able to generate more friendships among the participants, create a fun atmosphere and make it a good experience for everyone," he said.

Participants should dress comfortably and wear tennis shoes. Rackets will be available for those who don't have their own.

Registration is required. To register, call (706) 821-1600 no later than the day before the lesson you plan to attend.
