HEPHZIBAH, Ga. - Mrs. Gertrude Marie Waterfield of Hephzibah, Ga., died on Tuesday, March 10, 2009, after an extended illness. She was 76 years old. Mrs. Waterfield was born in Teplitz-Schonau, Czech Republic, the daughter of the late Franz Herr and Elenore Fischer Herr. She was of the Roman Catholic faith. Mrs. Waterfield moved out of Czechoslovakia in 1946 to FŸrth/Nuremburg, Germany, where she lived until 1964. She then moved to the United States. Mrs. Waterfield is survived by her husband, George D. Waterfield of Hephzibah; daughter, Kelly Waterfield of Hephzibah; and her nephew, Peter Stienhof. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Maria Magdalene Zayko in 1965 and two sisters, Elenore Morton and Louise Stienhoff. A memorial service will be conducted today, Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. at The Poteet Funeral Home, 3465 Peach Orchard Road, Augusta, 706.798.8886. Rev. John Beck will officiate.
