Get rid of all the career politicians

  • Follow Letters

We continue to march towards socialism. The government bailouts -- which are similar to the corporate welfare programs that critics blamed former President Bush for supporting -- are going to bankrupt the country.

The Democrats and Republicans in Washington are apparently so dense and so short-sighted that neither can see that you can only spend so much money, and that there is only a limited amount of money. Any beginner accountant will tell you that you cannot spend more than you bring in without serious consequences. And the proposed government health care program is a disaster waiting to happen.

The government is not the answer to health care, education and other issues it gets involved in. Republicans spent like drunken sailors and lost their values -- which is why they took a beating in recent elections. Now the Democrats are doing the same thing. So which party can we trust?

It's politics as usual in Washington, with both parties blaming each other. And the new administration spends valuable time criticizing Rush Limbaugh rather than directing their energy towards more crucial issues.

It is time to get your pitchforks and muskets and throw out the tired old faces in the government, and replace them with new faces and ideas. It's time for term limits on Congress. No more career politicians.

Let's not stop with career politicos, let's also get rid of self-serving bureaucrats and special interest lobbyists while we're at it.

George, while your message is well meant, and many would agree with it; until you can put together an organization as large and as dedicated as were the handlers of the Obama campaign you will never see any of our "elected" Princes on the Potomac proposing a bill that would bring an end to their stranglehold on American government. Nothing less than a majority of the citizens of this nation arming themselves with the pitchforks and muskets you speak of will be successful in bringing about the changes you write about. Have you the money, time and CHARISMA that it would take to accomplish "change?" GGpap

Rarely do I ever vote for an incumbent.

fandango

there is abosolutley no difference in the two ruling parties .. they point there fingers at each other & scream how outraged they are at the " opponents " actions meanwhile both parties engage in the same tactics to enrich themselves & their cronies ... this current clown they let you elect to the presidency is even less qualified than the last ( bush ) that they steered into the job... & yet you all believe your party deemo or repub auctually represents you. hah ha h haha hah h

stadry

i'm beginning to think ' what the hell,,, let's get the destruction over with so be can rebuild,,, i might finally vote straight democrat party,,, but then i'd have to leave the country as it would soon bankrupt itself & fail !

Well I am not going to kick my representative out, He isn't the problem, its all the rest and people need to get rid of them. Yeah ole Jim Bob is my kinda guy, he has BarBQ once a year and invites everybody, of importance that is. Or better yet how about the following heard in a voting place a few years ago, "Who has the Walker Cheat sheet, I need to know who to support". Yes folks I heard a bunch of black ladys making the comment waiting in line at the voting place. And BTW there was a document listing who people should vote for and like Lemmings they did vote that way.

I4PUTT

We don't need any money or powerful organization to accomplish term limits. All we need to do is vote. Starting now never vote for anyone who has been in office for 2 terms or more.

HYPOCRITES 08

Dang, I guess you were looking over their shoulders when they voted. Otherwise, how in the hell would you know? Is that any different than the Chronicle posting a listing of who they support?

dashiel

I4putt, sounds like a good, easy-to-understand plan. The tricky part comes in sustaining it. The typical American voter has the attention span of a goldfish.

convertedsoutherner

We also need good, qualified candidates that will use common sense and the constitution.

GnipGnop1

Term limits and outlaw lobbying. How is lobbying any different than insider trading? Time to clean house and get a party to represent middle class taxpayers.

mad_max

amen dashiel....We continue to prove that we are incapable of governing ourselves. As the parties and media drive us apart the vacuum in the middle builds. It eventually sucks in a "saviour". Here we call him Obama. Elsewhere they call him Putin, Chavez, Castro, Milosevic, al-Bashir. Once in power the first order of business is to stomp out the opposition and take total control of the treasury. Then you start nationalizing banks and industry. To pacify the electorate you attack the wealthy as evil, seize their money and parcel a little of it out to the ignorant masses. You eventually change the laws to totally silence any opposition in the media. It's a proven system and we are seeing it executed very effectively.

Dissman is dead on the point. I voted early in last years elections, and while at the elections office, a man came through the door and wanted to register to vote. He said he had not voted in 30 years. It was obvious he was not there to vote for McCain. If he had no interest in the goverment of America for the past 30 years, why the suddden interest now? Until voters of all parties start informing themselves intelligently, we will have the same-o same-o!

Term limits is a shotgun approach. There are some legislators who have kept their oath - like De Mint and Broun and others. Many in Congress and the Executive have taken the oath to "support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic" and have immediately begun ignoring the Constitution and become domestic enemies. The red states should have formed the Conservative States of America and let the blue states be the United Socialist States of America (USSA) after the election. Since this hasn't occurred, those who have violated their oath should be tried for treason.

Niko Mahs

We did. Gingrich is gone, so is Bush & Cheyney. Whose left on the right? Rushbo the 400 pound gorilla who leads the GOP. Anybody else cannot get by without kissing the bottom of the 400 pounder dressed in Black. And it sure is not slimming him down at all.

Craig Spinks

Until We the People pay as much attention to the actions- as opposed to the words- of our governments at all levels as we do to ET, athletics, shopping, who's fornicating with whom et al. our experiment in representative government will continue to fail.

willistontownsc

Jim DeMint is NOTHING but a career politician, who could care less about South Carolinians or Americans. I will be voting him out in 2010. Everyone else with an ounce of common sense should do the EXACT same thing.

willistontownsc

The same goes for Joe Wilson, and the GOP candidate for governor and Lieutenant Governor.

disssman

Craig are you infering that the majority of americans know more about "american idol" than they do about their government? I still believe that the root cause of the lack of knowledge is our lack of a Draft for the boys and the girls. If mama thought her little darling was in danger of being called to serve this country, they would sit up and take notice of who is calling the shots. And secondarilly we would give women the same equality as men have, to serve this nation. As it stands now the attitude is "my little darling isn't needed because we are all voluntary", which translates into "let someone elses kid serve, mine is too important".

willistontownsc

Bingo, disssman.

KSL

Term limits work very well when you get an elected official you don't agree with. Not so good otherwise. Maybe changing the rules about the power after you get to Congress. At least that way we would not have so many people on the elite retirement and health care rolls, you know the programs we all would like to be covered under, but are not.

rcs2749

No politician Democrat or Republican needs to serve more than 2 or 3 terms (10 yrs max) in one particular seat in congress. Term limits themselves will clean up most of the BS at local, state, and federal levels.

!!Down with the career politicians!!! It was never meant to be that way when this country was founded.
