At what point did we acknowledge that we have a "super race" of celebrities in the United States? If everything you hear on television is true (it is, right?), then the once-ordinary mortals who act in any of the hundreds of weekly dramas and comedies, the talk show hosts and reality(?) TV stars are just one step beneath the prophets. And, of course, let's not overlook pro athletes -- the grown people who play children's games for a living.
And in the act of supporting them, we have also given most of them the impression that every golden word that falls from their worthy lips is somehow worthy of repeating ad nauseum . And they have an opinion about everything, don't they? And, of course, they simply must exercise their people-given right to air their opinions. Politics seems to be the new favorite topic for these "super" people. If they throw their support behind a candidate or a cause, well then, we need to follow right along behind them, right? They know everything, right? As much as we pay them, they should! Every time they draw a paycheck, we reinforce that belief.
I miss the days when my parents knew everything. And if they didn't know, my teacher or my pastor did. And, of course, there's that little book that has been around longer and is the No. 1-selling book of all time -- the Bible. I miss the days when our role models were presidents, astronauts and other people who did worthwhile things with their time. Why, I wonder, do our children want sports figures and actors for their role models? Oh, right. They make lots of money.

Money talks and b.s. walks. It's kind of like a motto, like, you know?
Very well said Ms. Stevens. Celebrities know no more than any of the rest of us. Sometimes they know even less. Unfortunately even Presidents are no longer a role model that we would want our children to emulate. And they haven't been for quite some time.
overburdened: You are correct. Celebrities know no more or less than the rest of us. So why do so many people give any credence to what celebrities like Rush, Hannity, Boortz, etc have to say?
I don't know Tech, maybe it is because we all like to listen to those that share our views. Unfortunately we are becoming a nation of intolerance. Look at the universities and colleges around the country, they used to be a place of expressing individual ideas. Now you can only express those ideas without fear of reprisal if those thoughts are the same as the educators.
TechLover, is your envy so radical? Do you think some people may think you're just a teeny bit obsessed?
