Clearing the way
Gilbert Manor's demolition marks the beginning of MCG's expansion
From Staff
Friday, February 27, 2009

Gilbert Manor housing project occupied the 15 acres beside the Medical College of Georgia for 67 years before the property was sold by the Augusta Housing Authority to the school in 2008. When construction of MCG's dental school begins on the site, bricks, concrete slabs and sidewalk masonry from the housing complex will be ground up and used for new parking lots. Thompson Wrecking Co. expects to recycle 80 percent of what's left from the demolition.
