The Augusta Chronicle reduced its workforce today according to Don Bailey, president of the newspaper. The positions were eliminated across a variety of departments. Mr. Bailey attributed the reductions to difficult economic conditions.
"Newspapers are experiencing the same financial challenges as other industries," he said. "The Chronicle is still a strong business and will continue to produce a great newspaper for our community. Like other companies, we are taking steps to reduce expenses and make our operations more efficient."
The Chronicle is one of 13 daily newspapers owned by Morris Communications Co., a privately held media company based in Augusta.
