By throwing the wacky left out of office in the next election, 60% of the stimulus package can be stopped.
I agree with your Feb. 14 editorial titled "Worst legislation ever?" Our liberal leaders have become irresponsible and negligent in their all-consuming glee at being in the majority. There's not a trained economist among them, yet they believe they own the intelligence on what's best for our country's economic present and future.
New York Sen. Chuck Schumer had the audacity to announce to the entire nation that even if there were some small pork items in the stimulus bill, "Americans don't care." I'm insulted! I have spent the past six months e-mailing my congressmen (and several from other states) letting them know just how much I care. Friends and family members across the country have done the same thing.
Listen up, Washington - we who elected you do care. The stimulus bill is a travesty perpetrated upon us by the very people who caused our current economic problem in the first place. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are perfect examples of what happens when government butts into private business - they make a mess of it. If the officers and boards of private businesses aren't smart enough to operate in such a manner that they successfully offer a product the market demands, reward their employees for their work and loyalty and fulfill their responsibility to the stock holders who financially support them, then they deserve the fate of failure that awaits them.
Left to our own devices we, the American people, have come through times like this before and have been made stronger and better for the experience. We are strong people. We are survivors. We work and are rewarded accordingly. We know no one promised us a rose garden. Our federal legislators want us to believe they can fulfill such a promise when, in fact, the only thing they know how to do is spread manure.

And the Conservatives weren't irresponsible and gleeful?
reader's message is he hit me first. My hope is no matter who started it, we can stop it now. This trillion dollar spending bill and all the others Obama & Pelozi have planned are ruinous for America. Obama nation versus abomination. That simply cannot be a coincidence.
no, confused reader, conservatives aren't. Republicans, however, are. Their current values have shifted way to the moderate side.
Once you put government programs into place, it's hard to get rid of them, no matter how expensive and inefficient they are.
PT:Yeah? Please share your wisdom and explain to us all how we can get out of this mess that the GOP has gotten us into.
Yes, the nation survived problems like this before--because, when they occur, the American people have had enough sense to elect liberals to fix the problems that the conservatives created.
The letter stinks. More manure from a conservative with no real answers.
Socialism hasn't ever worked. It can't. People aren't cattle. It will fail this time also. Liberals = sheeple.
reader, apparently you never read. Have someone explain personal responsibility to you.
PT: You have a cornucopia of put downs but no ideas.I guess that you have had that little superiority thing going for quite some time. It's never too late for counseling.
reader54, most of the conservative/republican (antics with semantics) posters on here have fine minds. Minds so fine that no idea can penetrate them. Not even if placed on the bit of a cranial power drill. It's genetic. Optirectumitis.
So dashiel, all kidding aside. You support the Stimulus Law?
reader, you have to consider that the Conservatives irresponsibility began showing over time. The Liberals irresponsibility is showing in a drastically shorter period of time than the Conservatives.
Ignorance is bliss justus
Please give the positives of barry husseins' plans and policies and his cabinet/administration. Please tell us how his plans/policies are going to benefit all people. Please tell us how we're going to pay for these jobs after the money runs out. Please tell us how increasing taxes on small business (who will have to decrease jobs and increase prices) is going to benefit all people. The blind and gullible continue to be blind and gullible. Please tell us why the dow keeps dropping as every barry hussein plan is announced. Please tell us about the lack of confidence by the learned people in economics. Be concerned - Be VERY concerned.
justus4, don't worry, with all of the illegal immigrants pouring in and the birth rate of minorities, you will be a majority soon. If you are in Richmond County you already are....I wasn't aware that the GI Bill bought new homes for white veterans, very interesting....
Justthefacts, I haven't read it all either, but enough to see that some of its expenditures will provide real bang for the buck while others won't. For instance, food stamps and extended unemployment benefits will put back into the economy $1.73 and $1.64 respectively for every stimulus dollar whereas a dollar from an across-the-board tax cut and a corporate tax cut would return $1.03 and 30 cents respectively. While I don't think the stimulus package merits a Star of David on the label, no one has suggested a better plan if we are to believe the free market is now in free fall, which I do.
Thanks for your reply.

Posted by reader54 on Tue Feb 24, 2009 5:55 AM....Tell us please, how the GOP got us iinto this mess when it was they who trid to reign in Freddie and Fannie only to be blocked by the likes of that guy(?) Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd who received the MOST political contributions (followed by BimbObama) from F&F. Tell us how for 6 years we had the lowest unemployment in recent hisotry, a steady growth in GDP and no more 9/11s on our soil. BimbObama and the DIMs have caused more damage to this country in just 30 days than in our history.
justus, i mean serioulsy everytime there is a letter written to the editor you always make it a point to say something about racism. My grandfather is a veteran and he didn't get a new house.
patriciathomas: again, why do you feel the country is turning "socialistic"
Justus4, I just can't get all worked up over the way WW II black veterans were treated. That was 1940s and this is 2009. BTW, which plantation do you live on now and who owns you these days?
Southerngoy, you just illustrated my 7:57 a.m. posting. I pray that your optirectumitis isn't terminal. You should probably get a second opinion, however. You could have cerebral hemorrhoids.
The gov't never bought homes for "white vets"- my father was a vet of WWII- white- no house. People talking about hte black vets who were spit on. I wish we had a vietnam vet on the posting board- I understand through my father that there were no ticker tape parades upon their return, they were ostricized as baby killers. The gov't has never been kind or supportive of our troops and their families. People say the ultimate sacrifice is giving your life to freedom- i say that the ultimate sacrifice is trying to live in freedom upon your return from war.
But what about SIGNIFICANT insults, southernguy? Suppose somebody called ol' Socrates the kind of greasy old Greek he really WAS? I bet he wouldn't call that petty.
