Augusta State is up to sixth in rankings

Augusta State climbed three spots to sixth in the NABC Divi-sion II Coaches Poll released on Tuesday.

Peach Belt Conference rival USC Aiken moved up one spot to 14th.

A knee injury has ended the career of South Carolina senior guard Brionna Dickerson .

Dickerson hurt the knee Jan. 25. She was averaging 13.4 points a game.

Champions Made From Adversity will play host to the National Wheelchair Basketball Association Carolina Conference Division III Tournament this weekend at Patriots Park.

An All-Star Game featuring three players from each of the eight teams is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Games are scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Jaguars' Wilkerson PBC player of week

Augusta State junior outfielder Shannon Wilkerson has been named the Peach Belt Conference Baseball Player of the Week.

Wilkerson hit .714 with three homers, 15 RBI and a 1.571 slugging percentage in six games last week.

He leads the Peach Belt with six homers, 27 RBI, 21 runs and a 1.149 slugging percentage.

Augusta State's Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader against Lander, scheduled for today in Greenwood, S.C., has been postponed because of the threat of inclement weather.

Golf

Lady Jaguars finish ninth in tournament

In Miami, the Augusta State women shot a final-round 317 to finish ninth in the Qdoba Invita-tional at Don Shula Golf Club.

The Lady Jaguars, who began the final round seventh, posted a 54-hole score of 933, 42 shots behind winner Georgia State.

Emilie Geury (79) finished 28th at 231 to lead the Lady Jags.

McKenzie Talbert , who plays out of Mount Vintage Plantation, won the 13-18 division of the Ballantyne Junior Open by four shots last weekend.

The 13-year-old shot 76-73 in the event in Charlotte, N.C.

Football

QB leaves the team at Georgia Southern

Georgia Southern quarterback Antonio Henton , who started nine games last season, has left the program, coach Chris Hatcher said.

Henton played in all 11 games and passed for 1,852 yards and 15 touchdowns, with 12 interceptions. He also rushed for 628 yards and nine TDs.

Henton will pursue other playing opportunities.

Clemson running back C.J. Spiller has been named college football's third most explosive player for the 2009 season by Rivals.com.

California tailback Jahvid Best and Dez Bryant , a wide receiver from Oklahoma State, were the top two players on the list.

Following the lead of the NFL and the NCAA, the National Federation of State High School Associations has banned the horse-collar tackle from high school football.

Tackling a player by grabbing the inside collar of the shoulder pads or jersey will be a personal foul carrying a 15-yard penalty from the spot of the infraction.

Federer out of the Davis Cup vs. U.S.

Roger Federer pulled out of Switzerland's Davis Cup series against the United States in March and a tournament in Dubai next week because of a back problem.

In Dubai, United Arab Emi-rates, organizers of the Dubai Tennis Championships said that security fears were behind the decision to bar an Israeli player.

The statement by the Dubai Tennis Championships -- citing fan anger at Israeli's recent incursions into the Gaza Strip -- was the first detailed explanation of the visa denial for Shahar Peer.

In Aiken, the USC Aiken men (5-1) beat Mount Olive 8-1, while the women (3-3) came from behind to post a 5-4 victory over the Trojans.
