Academy of Richmond County's Alex Jiles goes up for a shot as Butler's Khiry West (left) and DeAndre Jackson defend during The Region 3-AAAA boys basketball tournament at Josey High School.

Any anticipation generated by a meeting of the area's hottest team and the tournament's top seed vanished in the second quarter when Richmond Academy outscored Butler 27-7.

Desmond Lofland and Ivan Rushen scored 14 points apiece for Richmond Academy. The 89 points were the Musketeers' most against a region opponent in 19 games this season.

"Our intensity has been up in practice, and we played well in spurts (Tuesday)," coach Steve Nobles said.

"I'm glad we're in the state tournament, and we're just going to fight like everyone else."

Butler, seeded eighth out of 10 teams but winners of five in a row, gave up 44 points in the first half and trailed by 30 early in the third quarter.

Freshman Chris Washington scored 18 points for the Bulldogs.

On a serious note they really need to FIRE the coach. He was out of the system and has snuck back in, how? and why?
