Change you can count on?

Less than a month into the Obama administration, it appears determined to solidify the Democrats' hold on power -- perhaps for years to come.

Why else would the new president and his staff seek to bring the Census Bureau director under Oval Office supervision?

It's hard to order a meal in Washington and not be political, but the Census would become hyper-politicized under the administration's proposal.

Consider this 2006 quote from Obama chief of staff Rahm Emanuel: "If you think redistricting is always partisan and political, which it is ... it's going to be on steroids this time."

The fount of political power in Washington is the Census, which helps determine such things as how many representatives each state gets, how certain funds are distributed and how political districts are drawn.

Here's how the White House, trying to calm the waters, puts it: The Census director will "work closely with White House senior management."

Even if the arrangement would be as innocent as that sounds, that begs the question: Why? What business, other than partisan politics, would all the president's men have in tinkering with the Census?

And even if the move isn't a blatant power play, it has all the earmarks of one -- and it is making the climate in Washington all the more politically charged. Wasn't Mr. Obama going to change that -- for the better, not for the worse?

Indeed, Republicans have threatened to go to court to block the White House from injecting itself into the Census process. We think the courts would seriously consider it. We don't think this is what the Framers had in mind.

The move looks all the more cynical against the backdrop of Republican Judd Gregg's nomination to head up the Commerce Department, which includes the Census Bureau.

Because of the Census maneuver, and other differences with the increasingly partisan Obama administration, Gregg withdrew his name from nomination last week.

The president has been boasting about including an unprecedented number of Republicans in his Cabinet -- but in this case, at least, he seems to want the Census director to report to him, not the Commerce secretary. Ingenious! Get all the bipartisan glory for nominating a Republican, but strip him of a key power.

We hope that's not what's at work here. The only way for the White House to prove that is to reverse course and leave the Census alone.

So far I haven't seen the

So far I haven't seen the Dems trying to redistrict states in between census years like Tom Delay and the Repubs did in Texas. Where was the outrage of the AC then? "The Bush administration today transferred the power to adjust population figures produced by the 2000 Census to the secretary of commerce from the Census Bureau. The Commerce Department rescinded a regulation issued in October by the Clinton administration that had sought to insulate from political pressure any decision on whether to adjust census figures.Donald L. Evans, the secretary of commerce, said bureaucrats at the Census Bureau should not make a decision that partisans on both sides contended could be crucial in determining what party would control the House after the 2002 election. That decision, Mr. Evans said, should be made by politicians, who ultimately had to face voters. Mr. Evans, was President Bush's campaign chairman." It seems W had his hand in the census as well. Where was the outrage?

The article is possibly
Unpublished

The article is possibly correct. The 2010 Census will be a hot potato and the redistricting that follows will put a stake in the heart of the Republican Party, except in the South. So the plan is being exposed and the drumbeat of "unfairness" is being shouted throughout the all-white media & non-minority airwaves. The rules state that the party in control at the time of the Census must complete that action. (R) want to use statistical sampling (knowing they'll miss hundreds of thousands) of poor folks & minorities, while (D) want to count each nose which is more accurate, which is what the Constitution demands. So "we" get to count this time and everyone is nervous because the results will bring more minority elected officials. And some people are scared-to-death about such developments and will do anything, say anything to distort this truth. However, "We Will Get There", because these are long established rules, so lets see who can play by the them.

If you want to sound a more

If you want to sound a more knowledgeable as well as a tad more dignified tell your poor downtrodden people to try and behave with a tad more class...I, for one, am tired of hearing how oppressed and repressed your "black" people have been having to endure...The state of loud, undressed, filthy mouthed, butts and breasts showing for all the world to see is counter-productive to your argument justus4...

Thank you to both Techlover

Thank you to both Techlover and C-134. Both your posts are dead on. P.S. C-134 I was rewarded with a pprime example (not unusual) at my gas fill up yesyterday. There he was, about mid 20s, inside the station paying for his gas and lottery, meanwhile his rust bucket was outside playing music about this little"n" and that little "N" and what they were going to do to the "B" when the had a desire. Absolutely disgusting for a civilized person to have to listen to. P.S. there were lots of Black kids sitting in mammas cars at the same time, apparently they were being educated about how not to to act in public when they grow up.

Unregistered voters,

Unregistered voters, illegally registered voters, illegal alien voters, new voting rules set up in specific districts by biased partisan boards, using biased court systems to steal elections. The Dems have been way ahead of the curve when it comes to voter manipulation. The law be damned. (see ACORN and the current Mn. senate election). Now O intends to "adjust" the census to insure redistricting? Well, I just said they were ahead of the curve, not covert. The U.S. Supreme Court may well have to decide if this manipulation will fly. This is only 3 1/2 weeks into the new administration. Hang on to your hats. We have 4 more years of this.

The woman I saw awhile back

The woman I saw awhile back had huge breasts hanging out of a sweater without a front as well as no back...This was in a hospital setting...The part that still bothers me is that no one including myself complained simply for the reason we didn't want to seem racist...Well not one minute longer will I put up with this disgusting show of indecency...Right along with the filthy "music"...I will call the police each and every time...I may not get results but by golly I will have the satisfaction of knowing that I did something right...

Tell me TECHIE, do you

Tell me TECHIE, do you remember any Republican administration wanting to ram through a "Fairness Doctrine?" Air America has been around for some time now. It hasn't made any money, but it's still around. It's station screamed venom against Bush and the Republicans, but funny, they never seemed to think we needed a "Fairness Doctrine." Democrats can't stand criticism, so if they can't beat it in a fair market, they'll legislate it out of existence.

BUT you better check your 6 and KEEP it covered. The Patriots that bled and died for this country will not be allowed to have died in vain. There are enough "Patriots" out here, in the mainstream, to alleviate the threat posed by you Socialist & Communist POS. Put that in your pipe and smoke it! Be AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID. .These cries seem vaguely

.These cries seem vaguely familiar. The party in power always sets the tone and agenda.Seems like the repubs want to cherry pick on bi-partisanship.Three repubs on the stimulus bill that was ostensibly to create and keep jobs for the working public.[NOW THATS REAL BI-PARTISAN]. But when it comes to the instrument that will keep their fannies in power and "In The Loop" oh they aren't going to see it any other way.The repubs seem to have forgotten They gerrymandered Cynthia McKinny and several other "Dem Strongholds on their watch now we're to go boo hoo for them now!!NO WAY. The repubs sat there and rubber stamped us into a war that has for all practical purposes bankrupted us ;Gave tax cuts during a war[WRECKLESS]; Sat and rubber stamped the country into a depression[See Trickle Down] Now we're supposed to cry if they get gerrymandered out of existence. EIGHT YEARS TOO LATE IF YOU ASK ME!!!!!!

Retired Army when it comes to

Retired Army when it comes to what Christians want or the rights they want returned nothing is fair and will never be fair? Freedom of Speech just happens to be one of many examples...So the analogy you have tried to use is not going to work...Socialism is not a scare word it is fact...As far as the census goes it is not something I agree with, have never agreed with, and probably never will...Hang over from my youth...:-)

Well, JUSTUS, according to you, it's all the fault of the GOP and "all white media." So, we just need to get rid of both. Have only the Democratic Party to represent us and BET to watch for our news and the world will be right. By the way, JUSTUS, it's stake in the heart, not steak. Such mistakes might make some people, not me, think you're stupid. I know you're not.

Well, there you go. According to RETIREDARMY, Judd only volunteered for the commerce position to manipulate the census. It must be nice to be able to read people's minds. Tell us, Retired Army, how do you do it? Was it a gift you were born with? Were you stuck by lightning? Did spirits come over you and allow you to be a "medium?" I apologize for calling you a petty little person earlier. That was wrong, but so is your continued rants calling me and others racists. You should never make such statements of people you don't know. You only belittle your point, no matter how good it might be. I've apologized for my mistake, but I'll bet Hell will freeze over before you do!

Our economy is in free fall

Our economy is in free fall and all the little Lindseys can do is throw hissy fits for YouTube. We don't need updated Census figures to see that the Republican party is now white, southern and male. With talking points instead of ideas and talking heads instead of leaders, these passive-aggressives are driving their party toward utter extinction. They are the ones who appear "determined to solidify the Democrats' hold on power."

justhefacts....Please excuse

justhefacts....Please excuse them. Facts mean nothing to the Dems. They are stupid emotional nutcases led by the liberal media and their latest "saviour"....I don't mean Obama, I mean Pelosi. Apparently Pelosi is calling all the shots because Obama and his staff are too stupid and disorganized to actually draft a bill. Obama is just there to be on TV once a week as the black kid who made it big. That keeps all the blacks in line so they will continue to support the lilly white liberal Pelosi programs. Let's face it. They have a fullproof program. Crazy white liberal politicians actually running things while they run Obama out in front of the TV to shoot a few hoops to show he is really a bro'. All of the decisions HE has made have already been failures like his cabinet appointees. Pelosi and Reid don't care about anything he does as long as they are spending the money. Poor black folks. Duped again by the Democrats. Obama is pretty much irrelevant for now as long as Pelosi and Reid are in charge of the purse strings. This stimulus bill is a classic example of how they totally ignored what Obama said he wanted. Either that or Obama LIED LIED LIED. Oh no, say it ain't so.
