AIKEN, S.C. - Anita Louise Gregory of Aiken died on February 9, 2009. She was born on June 22, 1938, the eldest child of James Byrnes Gregory, Sr. and Vivian Lybrand Gregory. Ms. Gregory graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She also received a Master's degree in Education from the University of Georgia in 1972. In the early 1960's, Ms. Gregory began her teaching career at Jackson High School in Aiken County. For over 40 years, she taught English and business in the state's technical education system serving as on e of the original employees at Aiken Technical College. Ms. Gregory was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the Ridge Spring Garden Club. She loved gardening, attending the Master's Golf Tournament and spending time with her niece and nephews. Ms. Gregory is survived by her brother, James Byrnes Gregory Jr. (Nancy), of Columbia, a sister, Margaret Gregory Amick of Columbia, a niece, Sarah Sterling Gregory and nephews, James Byrnes Gregory III and Carlyle Jackson Gregory. The family will receive friends from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m., Friday, February 13, at The Hamilton Mortuary in Ridge Spring with graveside service to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Ridge Spring Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Ridge Spring Garden Club, P.O. Box 556, Ridge Spring, SC 29129. The Hamilton Mortuary of Ridge Spring is in charge of arrangements.
