EASLEY, S.C. - Mr. Herman Pfadenhauer, age 104, a resident of 111 Hillcrest Circle in Easley, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville. He was a member of Easley First Baptist Church and attended services regularly as long as his health allowed. Herman was born October 1, 1904, in Bernardsville, New Jersey, to the late Charles and Mary Anna Merkle Pfadenhauer. An accomplished architect and construction engineer, Herman demonstrated expertise that was evidenced through his employment in supervisory positions by prestigious firms such as Day and Zimmerman; Carl Kemm Loven, Architectural Associates; Melvin P. Windsor, Inc; and A. J. Kellos Construction Co. His accomplishments are too numerous to list, but they will leave tangible evidence of his skills for years to come in places such as New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Louisville, Cape Cod, Cincinnati, and Augusta, Georgia. In addition to his parents, Herman was predeceased by two sisters, Bertha and Agnes, and by two former wives, Frances Bush Pfadenhauer and Ruby McCrary Pfadenhauer. Herman is survived by his wife, Frances Farr Freeman Pfadenhauer; step-son, Roland Freeman and wife Susan of Lancaster; step-daughter, Meredith F. Stansell and husband Jimmie of Easley; step-grandson, Scott Freeman and wife Ginnie of Greenville and step-great grandchildren, Drew Freeman and Lilly Freeman. Friends will be welcome to visit at the home at their convenience. A graveside service will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at 11 AM with Doctor John Adams and Reverend Rick Bumgardner presiding.
