GROVETOWN, Ga. - Mr. John D. Hill, Jr., beloved husband of 62 years to Mrs. Ellen Elizabeth Williams Hill, entered into rest on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at University Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday February 10, 2009 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home- Lumpkin Road Chapel with Rev. Eddie Bradford officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Cheney Meiere, Jr., Jimmy Hill, Jr., Douglas Parker, Philip Thomas, Jr., Charles Hunter and Fabrizio Garcia. He was retired from BellSouth Telephone as a district manager. Mr. Hill served in the U.S. Army during World War II, after his enlistment he later served with Army reserve for 22 years. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Masons and Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church. Mr. Hill was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He also enjoyed playing golf and traveling. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will deeply be missed by those he leaves to cherish his memory. Survivors include his wife, Ellen Elizabeth Williams Hill; son and daughter-in-law, John S. (Judy) Hill; daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley (Cheney) Meiere and Julie (Tom) Ulm; sisters, Betty Goree, Helen Crenshaw, and Sara Thomas; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Doug) Parker, Cheney (Angela) Meiere, April Ulm, Trudy (Kirk) Anderson, Jimmy Hill, Jr., Emily Ulm; three great-grandchildren, Mariah, Henley, and Leila Meiere. He was preceded in death by his sons, James M. Hill and David Hill; parents, John and Julia Hill; and a sister, Josephine Usher.
