The University of South Carolina Aiken Lady Pacers basketball team will honor breast cancer survivors at their game against Georgia Southwestern State University at 2 p.m. Saturday at the USC Aiken Convocation Center, 375 Robert Bell Parkway, Aiken.

Fans are asked to wear pink. Admission will be discounted to $3 with a requested $2 fee to benefit breast cancer patients. Admission includes the USC Aiken men's game immediately after the Lady Pacers' game.

Want money?

The City of Aiken State Accommodations Tax Committee is accepting funding requests for tourism-related projects that will take place between July 1 and June 30, 2010.

State accommodation tax grants are available for qualifying nonprofit or government organizations. Organizations should contact the Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department for a handbook and application. Applications are available at H. Odell Weeks Activities Center, 1700 Whiskey Road, and at www.aiken.net.

Historical talks

The Aiken County Historical Museum 2009 Lecture Series will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays through Feb. 17 at the museum, 433 Newberry St. S.W., Aiken.

The lecture series costs $30, which also pays for a one-year membership to the Friends of the Aiken County Historical Museum.

Boating course

The Thurmond Lake Sail and Power Squadron will teach a basic boating course consisting of four Tuesday and Friday sessions from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 24 and 27 and March 3, and from noon to 3 p.m. March 6 at the McCormick Public Library, 201 Railroad Ave., McCormick.

The cost for materials and books is $25 a person or $30 a couple. Advance registration is required. Space is limited.

Buy and read

The Aiken branch of the American Association of University Women is looking for donations and volunteers for its annual book sale.

Donations may be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturdays or between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesdays at the old Club Fitness building in Hitchcock Plaza, 401 Silver Bluff Road, Aiken. Acceptable donations also include used audio books, magazines and DVDs.

The sale will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, March 6, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at the Club Fitness building.
