Madgen, Jags hold off Braves on road

In Pembroke, N.C., Ben Madgen scored a game-high 30 points and No. 11 Augusta State outlasted UNC Pembroke 74-69 on Wednesday night in a Peach Belt Conference game.

Fred Brathwaite scored 15 and hit two free throws with seven seconds left to seal it for the Jags (16-4, 10-3 PBC), ranked second in the Southeast Region.

In the women's game, UNC Pembroke rolled to a 70-48 win.

Augusta State's Nicole Mealing led all scorers with 19 points. The Lady Jags (5-15, 3-10) have dropped three in a row and four of five.

- In Florence, S.C., Josh Dollard had 19 points to lead five players in double figures as No. 9 USC Aiken beat Francis Marion 74-63 in a Peach Belt game.

It was the fourth consecutive win for the Pacers (16-4, 11-2 PBC), ranked third in the Southeast Region.

In the women's game, No. 17 Francis Marion limited USC Aiken to 16 first-half points en route to a 67-45 victory.

The loss was the second in a row for the Lady Pacers (16-7, 8-5), ranked third in the Southeast Region and 23rd nationally.

Jaguars' Wilkerson tops area honorees

Augusta State outfielder Shannon Wilkerson was named an NCAA Division II Preseason All-American from the Southeast Region by Collegiate Baseball .

Teammate and outfielder Tim Rawlings and USC Aiken first baseman/third baseman Ken Raborn made the publication's players to watch list.

Augusta State pitcher Dillon Roark and USC Aiken pitcher Jeremy Smith were on the newcomers to watch list.

Documents against Bonds are unsealed

In San Francisco, court documents show Barry Bonds tested positive for three types of steroids, and his personal trainer Greg Anderson once told his business manager in the Giants' clubhouse how he injected the slugger with performance-enhancing drugs "all over the place."

Prosecutors plan to use those 2000-03 test results and other evidence, detailed in the documents, at Bonds' trial in March to show that he lied when he told a federal grand jury in December 2003 that he never knowingly used steroids.

U.S. District Judge Susan Illston is to hear arguments today on what to allow jurors to hear.

Phelps is prepared to live with fallout

In Baltimore, Olympic champion Michael Phelps said it has been difficult coping with the fallout from a photo of him smoking from a marijuana pipe.

"It's something I am going to have to live with and something I'll have to grow from," Phelps said outside the pool where he is back in training. "I know with all of the mistakes I made, I learned from them and that is what I expect to do from this. By no means it is fun for me, by no means is it easy."

Bibby to compete in NBA's 3-point event

Atlanta guard Mike Bibby is one of six players who will take part in the 3-point shootout during the NBA's All-Star weekend.

- In New York, LeBron James scored a season-high 52 points in his 21st career triple-double, joined Michael Jordan as the only players with multiple 50-point games at the present Madison Square Garden, and led Cleveland to a 107-102 win over the Knicks.

James added 11 assists and 10 rebounds.

- Three-time WNBA MVP Lisa Leslie will call it quits after her upcoming 12th season with the Los Angeles Sparks.

Beckham wants to remain with Milan

David Beckham wants to leave the Los Angeles Galaxy and remain with AC Milan after his stay with the Italian team ends next month.

He announced his intentions Wednesday.
