COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina's Devan Downey has been named the Southeastern Conference's player of the week after leading the Gamecocks to wins over Vanderbilt and Kentucky.
The conference announced its pick Monday. It's the second such honor for the Chester native this season.
Downey averaged 20.5 points, four assists and 3.5 steals for the two games.
His turnaround jumper with 3 seconds left lifted the Gamecocks to a 78-77 victory over No. 24 Kentucky on Saturday - just their second win in 23 games on Kentucky's home court. Downey finished with 23 points, four assists and four steals against the Wildcats.
Downey scored 18 points while adding four assists and a team-best three steals in South Carolina's victory over Vanderbilt on Wednesday.
