Augusta's Human Relations Commission will stop taking new cases Wednesday as it prepares to shut down Feb. 27, according to a news release.

The commission's doors are being closed because of budgetary constraints.

It no longer will provide assistance involving employment, consumer or housing complaints or investigate or prepare charges of discrimination.

Pending federal cases will be forwarded to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's Savannah office at 410 Mall Blvd., Suite G., Savannah, GA 31406-4821.

To file new charges, contact the Atlanta district office at 100 Alabama St., S.W., Suite 4R30, Atlanta, GA 30303.

Good riddance. A waste of money anyway.

White men are being discriminated against in the NBA. I demand more short slow white men. I don't care if they can play. We need equality everywhere.

HYPOCRITES 08

Well at least Idiots are not being discriminated against by the Chronicle. They let you post your stupid comment.

Wait......I thought discrimination ended with the ascension to the throne by the newly elected messiah last week. Maybe now the Augusta National will stop discriminating against poor people by not inviting them to join. Now the NAACP is no longer needed, nor the American Negro College Fund and the other discrimatory groups in America. CNN and Gannet Newspapers discriminated against Republicans for the past eight years by NEVER having any positive news about the Bush administration. Yes people, discrimination is alive and well in the world. It always has and always will be there.
Get used to it.

All commissions of this type are a waste of taxpayer money. They amount to nothing but taxpayer supported special interest groups. The people who proposed this in the first place should be fired to save even more taxpayer monies!!

There was no such thing as equal employment opportunity during the Bush years.

If you have ever had the need to use their services for a legitement reason, you would never have a clue what these people actually do. I personally never used them, but have recommended there usage to a few people while I was a project manager for a Rather large construction firm in Florida. I had sub contractors that cheated their personell out of money's that they earned so by documenting their schedules on the job ,by subpeana they were able to get their earned monies. Also with the subcontractor theme if a person is paid by the hour and works continuously for the company he or she is not a subcontractor. Georgia fly by night contractors who use hourly or salaried individual personell as subs are in for a rude awakening. If an employer does not deduct income tax from an employee the employer is liable for the taxes. Everyone who thinks that their individual carpenters/laborers/roofers are subs will soon wake up to the fact that they have been cheating the government, the employee and the respective people that they are doing work for. Sonny has finally figured this out and so has IRS. How much income will it generate for the state and country?

As you see, the sockpuppet rants here exemplify how and why it does.

I guess it was a choice between funding the EEO or the Mini theater and the EEO wasn't deemed important enough to keep. BTW Fred has been saving about 40% of the budgeted cost of fuel this fiscal year so why didn't he use that money for the EEO?

c1212

just4us, learn how to write. you visited the office and they gave you advice.

I never understood the reason for it being called "Augusta's Human Relations Commission." Aren't all people human? This commission was entirely operated by blacks & for blacks. Shouldn't it have been called "Augusta's African-American Relations toward White Peoples' Commission?"

LadyCisback

The EEOC isn't any better.. regardless of the color of your skin!!
