GREENSBORO, N.C. - Nancy Cooney Lewis, 75, passed away on Monday January 19, 2009 at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Forbis and Dick Chapel located at 1118 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC, with the Rev. Lowell Adkins officiating. Nancy was born on October 27, 1933 in Huntsville, Alabama, to the late John Patrick Cooney and Nancy Oldham Cooney. She grew up in Augusta, Georgia, where she graduated from Mount St. Joseph High School. She went on to the University of Georgia and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Nancy is survived by her son, John Patrick Cooney Lewis and wife, Linda, and daughter, Bess Lewis of Greensboro. She is survived by a sister, Patricia Cooney of Chicago, Ill., and two grandchildren, Patrick Lewis and Mary Kate Lewis of Greensboro. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice at Greensboro, 2500 Summit Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27405. The family would like to thank the staffs of Kindred Hospital, Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, and N.C. Baptist Hospital - especially the nurses of ICU - 5C for their kindness and compassion for our family while caring for our mother.
