If the RCSO shot this lowlife we wouldn't have to worry about feeding him for the next 10 years---if he even serves any time.
An Augusta man convicted of vehicular homicide received a 10-year prison sentence Tuesday.
A Richmond County Superior Court jury found Darrius J. Ware, 20, guilty of homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter and several traffic offenses last month.
In the early hours of Feb. 10, 2007, Mr. Ware fled from a traffic stop on Gordon Highway. Trial witnesses estimated he was driving about 80 mph when his vehicle ran over Theodosia Mack, 47.
Ms. Mack, who was riding a bicycle, suffered massive injuries and died instantly, Assistant District Attorney Rex Myers said.
Mr. Ware was found not far away, in the wrecked car at Olive Road and Cooney Circle.
Mr. Ware has been in jail since. At the time he was a high school senior, said defense attorney David Brunk of the public defender's office.
Mr. Ware apologized to Ms. Mack's siblings, who attended the trial and Tuesday's sentencing. It just happened so fast, he said.
Judge Michael N. Annis told Mr. Ware that there had been plenty of time to reconsider what he was doing that night as he ran from deputies. If he had only recognized how foolish he was being and stopped, a child would still have his mother, Judge Annis said.
Ms. Mack, who volunteered at the Master's Table Soup Kitchen, is survived by one son and nine brothers and sisters.
When Mr. Ware completes his prison term, he will have an additional five years on probation to serve.

Another example of children making stupid decisions. These examples can be found through out history and no solutions, beyond good parenting, seem to address the problem.
onlt the truth- you should be ashamed of yourself for the comment that was made. how do you know this child was a low life? it could have easily been one of your children. would you want someone to say that about your child?
People...get it straight...this wasn't a CHILD! This was a 20 YEAR OLD YOUNG MAN! They threw in there that he was a HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR! You tell me the problem within that comment itself! Are you people that sheltered, seriously? Bottom line is, if it was my 'child,' he would have had sense about it. BTW, did they mention what the traffic stop was for? Did they release more information about this young man? Of course not...but I would be willing to bet that there is a LOT MORE than meets the eye. My guess, another 'innoncent' issue like Cherry Tree Crossing? He fled the 'traffic stop' to make sure he wouldn't be late to school! LOL
It's tragic and Ware deserves every day he will serve, but it also points out how dangerous high speed chases are to the publc and the police.
He's twenty now. The crime happened two years ago, which would have made him eighteen, which correct for a HS senior. I agree that he made a poor choice, just like those shoplifting women that killed the pregnant mother and her unborn infant in Evans, by blowing through the stop sign. Pitiful excuses for human beings. If you screw up and get caught, be grown up enough to surrender, and not hurt innocent people.
rip...i got that now. Under the impression that 20 was the reference to age 'at time.' 18 would be on target for seniors.
Again...Poor Choices and VERY POOR judgement.
Good job on sentencing...ONlY THE TRUTH if the police had shot this man then people would be crucifying the officer and the Department....
Scooter don't defend this lowlife. He deserves life in prison. In the original report on Feb 12, 2007 it said "During the traffic stop, Richmond County dispatchers told the officer that Mr. Ware's vehicle was reported stolen from Atlanta." He then took off when a second police car showed up. I blame the parents!
I have a suggestion for those who want law enforcement officers to shoot people: Join us, put on the uniform, take the challenge, get the low pay, spend hours away from your family and miss EVERY holiday because your needed on the streets, and when you feel like walking away from the moral compass that has kept you and the training that has kept you SHOOT SOMEONE when the elements to justify shooting them are absent...Just shoot them to prove a point...Maybe that point is to show the public what happens to someone who breaks the law, or the teach the scum a lesson...Shoot them for the hell of it, ability, opportunity, and jeapordy be damned!!See how quickly the cowboy public turns on you, see how quickly your family is hurt...Look your kids in the eye, tell them you had no choice...For all you armchair cowboys saying "oh, the police should have shoot him and saved the taxpayers", I say muster up and you take that challenge, man up and do the dirty work yourself don't wait on the police...Tivo "Death Wish" with Charles Bronson and get it right..Pfft, you are all scum and hypocrites to boot...Thank God for LEO's who hold the line the RIGHT way, wheter the public understands or not.
Motorman5039....you are right on point. We place the police in a no win situation daily. I would not be a patrol officer for any amount of money. I kind of liked the rules when I was a kid. If you ran from the police you fully expected to be shot. Guess what. I do not remember of even hearing about a high speed chase. They run because they know that even if they get caught nothing will happen to them unless they happen to kill somebody AND get caught. And with the "back off" rules there is a good chance they will get away. If they knew that as soon as they take off the bullets would be flying they would think twice about running.
Motorman5039: AMEN!
Yep, the same types who make race their M.O. for "discussion" are here. But are absent on posting about that White and even "Blond Aryan" type CC bomber, though (other than possibly under another nick, to defend him). What happened to the even hand of justice for the same (or worse) crime????
Well as a white person let me make it perfectly clear. I want criminals to suffer the consequences for their actions. I don't care if they are lily white either. The CC bomber should have the book thrown at him for endangering his neighbors. Federal time should be his punishment. I always try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and I try to be fair. I am only human though so I will admit I make mistakes.
see that's not right when that white boy killed that lady at the light when he ran from police he did'nt get that much time 3 years and here it is this black boy did the same thing and got 10 years...but it's ok obama is changing the laws and ill be glad because hes gonna make it that everybody gets the same time for the same crime.
Seems your the one yelling the loudest about race Sandy...I don't believe to many on here would agree that any criminal should get away with "whatever"...Why would you suggest such a thing if you were not all about race?...
there is always going to be a someone ALWAYS playing the race card in no matter what the circumstances!
SandyK is pretty stupid!
Either way, still a young brain.
sandy you are an idiot.....nuff said.....................
From you Karma, that's a compliment. Thank you. :)
"Seems your the one yelling the loudest about race Sandy" ---- Nope. It's called balance. The more one-sided the presentation is, the more a counterpoint is needed. Now you have your counterpoint, and we see you respond in a typical knee-jerk fashion (and displays the hypocrisy of your "outrage"). Thanks for playing! :)
How is 10 years plus 5 probation correct for killing another human being? If we're going to lay aside the death penalty as appropriate, he should be in jail for as long as she is going to be dead.
