Two in hospital after morning wreck
Two people were hospitalized after a two-vehicle wreck Tuesday morning in front of The Pizza Joint on Washington Road in Evans.
At about 10:30 a.m., Starr Owens, 30, of Grovetown, was traveling east on Washington Road in her gold Honda Accord, Columbia County sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said.
As Ms. Owens turned left onto Old Evans Road, she collided with a Nissan Titan, which flipped on its side in the front lawn of The Pizza Joint, striking a traffic control box, Capt. Morris said.
Ms. Owens and her passenger, Joel Sexton, 21, of North Augusta, were taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital. Ms. Owens was in fair condition and Mr. Sexton in good condition Tuesday afternoon, according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The truck driver, Jacob Kramer, 32, of Clarks Hill, S.C., was treated at MCG and released.
Ms. Owens was charged with an open-container violation and failure to yield right of way.
Man robs Security Federal branch
North Augusta Public Safety officers are investigating a robbery Tuesday at Security Federal Bank on East Martintown Road.
According to a news release, a Hispanic man wearing a camouflage jacket entered the bank at 12:24 p.m., brandished a gun at a teller and demanded cash. He filled a backpack with money and ran toward the Breckenridge II apartments, witnesses said.

Ho-hum just another bank robbery. Looks easy. If only I had no morals.
Whoever posted the comment yesterday betting that one of the vehicles in the Pizza Joint accident had to be from SC was correct. hmmmm...They must have drove past it.
"Ms. Owens was charged with an open-container violation" at 10:30 am. A little early in the morning to start drinking wouldn't you say.
Definately a little early in the morning for open container! Sounds like she may need assistance with a problem. Hopefully this will be a wake up call if that is the case
Ms. Owens was happy that it was snowing. So she decided to have a drink, I mean come on what better way to enjoy the once ever 5 year snow fall. Then to drive around go oh ah with a cold one between your legs.
But then on the other hand I am impressed that a honda accord can but a big pickup on its side.
I was thinking yesterday when everyone was saying what a bad intersection that is. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that intersection, no blind spots no suprises, the problem is drivers who do not pay attention and drive safely!!!!!
I commented on that intersection, not b/c of blind spots or surprises but because of the way it's set up and what happens when people try to get out...it was worse when there wasn't a light...yes, it does indeed involve safe driving, but courtesy plays a big part...people half the time don't want to let you out places, you go to pull out when it's clear, then some jerk speeds up from out of nowhere and cuts you off...or you could be getting ready to make a turn and the idiot behind you doesn't feel like waiting and passes you on the side inappropriately...
An open container violation COULD have been a bottle of liquor that the seal was broken on. That is considered open container. I'm trying to give her the benefit of the doubt because 10:30 AM is awful early to start nipping the bottle. And she wasn't charged with DUI so she probably wasn't drinking (yet).
Thats my point, there is nothing wrong with the way it is set up. The light was installed to make things safer and easier, its the idiots who can't drive who make it dangerous. People just need to slow down and pay attention. Its a clear intersection that should not have problems. And like you said about the courteous ones, that again has nothing do with the intersection set up. That driver is a jerk no matter where he is!!! lol
whyme - it's clear when you go through that intersection that hardly anyone is courteous or drives safely. I've seen so many bad accidents on that strip of Washington Road between Club Car and Gibbs Road due to unsafe drivers who want to crowd, run red lights or stop dead in the middle of the road to make a turn that it's not funny. Speaking of an idiot not wanting to wait and passing you inappropriately - you haven't had to deal with that jerk in the green Dodge pickup as well, have you? He nearly took out the front end of my car the other day because I wasn't turning left fast enough to make his sorry stop sign running butt happy. Fortunately for his wallet I did the right thing and slammed brakes instead of punching the gas.
If she's a full time shift worker she might have picked up a cold one on the way home. No different than someone getting off in the afternoon and doing the same. Quittin' time is quittin' time.
i say drink it if you got it!
