NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Mr. George Baskett, Sr., of 324 Hugh Street, entered into rest January 17, 2009 at the VAMC, DD, Augusta. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at Old Macedonia Baptist Church with the Rev. Lucile Dyson officiating. Interment will be in Mealing Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Baskett, a native of Aiken County, was a United States Army veteran. He retired from the Graniteville Company and Grace United Methodist Church. He was a member and deacon of Mealing Grove Baptist Church. Survivors include nine daughters, Rev. Lucile (Rev. Jimmie) Dyson, Laura (Rev. Luke) Mitchell, Mattie (Larry) Cook, Shelia (Raymond) Wilson, Glennice (Roy) Brown, Janice Baskett, Loretta (Calvin) Mays, Constance (William) Johnson, and Carol Lynn (Jeffery) Cannon; three sons, James (Barbara) Baskett, Harold Melvin (Loretta) Baskett, and James Simmons; daughter- in-law, Annette Baskett; one sister, Bennie D. Baskett; sister-in-law, Roberta Shaw; 29 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
