THOMSON, Ga. - Mr. Earl H. Tankersley, 82, beloved husband of Mrs. Lois Peebles Tankersley, of Ellington Ave., died Sunday, January 18, 2009 in the University Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, in the Curtis Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Sutphin officiating. Burial will be in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens. Mr. Tankersley was born in Columbia County, to the late Ernest and Sara Tankersley, and was the last surviving child of six children. He resided in Thomson most of his life. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and was an Army Veteran of W.W. II. Affectionately known as Mr. Earl to his many friends and business contacts, he was employed with Thomson Oak Flooring as a logger until his retirement at the age of 75. Mr. Earl loved the timber business and was able to make many lifelong friends through his work. Mr. Earl was a wonderful father and grandfather, who was devoted to his family, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Lois Peebles Tankersley, Thomson; his two daughters, Vicky T. (Jerry) Randolph, Thomson and Angela T. (Terry) Englett, Wrens; his two sons, Jerry L. (Mary) Tankersley and David E. Tankersley, both of Thomson; five grandchildren, Amy R. (Derek) Clark, Casey R. (Mel) Story, Jordan Tankersley, Jameson Tankersley, Jenna Tankersley, and Jeanie (Gary) Bohler; two step- grandchildren, Evan Englett and Emily Englett; and five great- grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Mel Story, Derek Clark, Ronald Russell, Curtis Newman, Wayne Jones, and Glenn Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 'Mens Big Meeting Club'. In lieu of flowers, Donation may be made to the McDuffie Co. Relay for Life or the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund. Friends may call at the residence or the Curtis Funeral Home.
