Daniel Charles Larkin (AIKEN, S.C.)

AIKEN, S.C. - Memorial services for Daniel Charles Larkin, III, will be held Wednesday January 21, 2009 at 2:00pm at George Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 211 Park Avenue SW, Aiken, with Rev. Dr. Fred Andre officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm Wednesday until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the V Foundation, 106 Tower View Court, Cary, NC, 27513, or the Aiken SPCA, 401 Wire Road, Aiken, SC, 29801. Daniel Larkin was born November 22, 1927 in Dayton, OH to the late, Daniel Charles Larkin, II and the late Lucy Larkin. He was an outstanding athlete winning eleven varsity letters in college, and an avid and excellent golfer his whole life. His mentors were Horton Smith (The First Masters Champion at the Augusta National) and Jimmy Burke. With the help of Strom Thurmond, Daniels father started the Crest Manufacturing Company in 1939 in Edgefield, SC. Then in 1971 Dan combined the offices in Detroit with the Manufacturing Company in Edgefield and moved his family. Throughout the career of Daniel Larkin his innovations were the source of the company's rise. He was a board member and member of the Woodside Country Club, Hounds Lake Country Club, Fripp Island Club, Pine Ridge Country Club, and the Green Boundary Club. His many friends and associates loved his sense of humor and generosity. He was devoted beyond measure to his wife and family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Larkin. He will be deeply missed by his wife, Ruth Larkin, sons, Daniel Larkin, John Larkin, daughter, Linda Smith, granddaughter, Ashleigh, and by his dear friends, Glenda Hart and Gary Owensby.
