AIKEN, S.C. - William Henry Smith, Jr., retired foreman from Babcock and Wilcox, went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2009. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Monday, January 19, 2009 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Weathers and Rev. Bill Watkins officiating. Graveside services will be 3:00 P.M. Monday at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Smith was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy and was a proud veteran of World War II. He was a life-time member of the American Legion Post 63 where he served as Past Commander, a member of the color guard, and the official bugler for the Post and played taps at Military funerals through the years. Mr. Smith was also a 50 year member of the Martinez Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife Jackie C. Smith; two children, Donna S. Hutto (Ronald D.) of McCormick, SC, and William H. Smith, III, of Augusta, GA; 1 step-son, Ryan Gunter of Aiken, SC; two grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 18, 2009 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at the Elliott's Telfair Street Chapel. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 1554 Old Ninety Six Indian Trail, Batesburg, SC or your favorite charity.
