A North Augusta man was arrested in a peeping tom incident Saturday at Macy's in the Augusta Mall.
According to Richmond County sheriff's investigator William Leisey, Chauncey G. Hampton, 25, was charged with criminal attempt-peeping tom after being accused of using his cell phone to take a picture up a woman's skirt while riding on an escalator. Investigator Leisey said the woman caught him in the act.
WWII veteran found in 2008 to be buried
CHARLESTON --- A World War II veteran who disappeared over the Pacific Ocean 65 years ago will be laid to rest today in his native South Carolina.
Maj. Marion Ryan McCown Jr. will be buried after a memorial service at the Unitarian Church in Charleston.
The Marines Corps is giving Maj. McCown a full military burial, including a fly over by F-18 Hornets, The Post & Courier of Charleston reported Saturday.
"I'm expecting a full church," said Mike McDaniel, the funeral director at Stuhr's West Ashley funeral home. "This is a hero coming home."
Maj. McCown was a Marine aviator stationed in the Pacific during the war. He had been missing since Jan. 20, 1944, when he volunteered to escort a bombing mission in his Corsair F-4U. Last year, a Joint Prisoners of War/Missing in Action Accounting Command team found his plane and remains in New Guinea.
Born in the South Carolina Lowcountry in 1917, Maj. McCown was a licensed pilot and a student at Georgia Tech when he enlisted after the war began.
His nephew, John Almeida, and a few other family members plan to attend Sunday's service. Mr. Almeida said he feared there were few people living who knew his uncle.
Celebration will hold Gullah horse races
CHARLESTON --- With planting and harvest over each year, Gullah folk traditionally gathered on wind-swept beaches during the holidays to race their swayback marsh tacky horses
"Around the Christmas holidays they would have horse races as to who had bragging rights," said James Mitchell Jr., the president of the Native Island Business and Community Affairs Association.
Now, amid renewed interest in preserving the centuries-old horse breed, the race tradition that faded during the past century is returning.
The first Gullah Celebration Marsh Tacky Run is set for Feb. 22 at historic Mitchelville Beach on the north end of Hilton Head Island. It's part of the island's 13th annual Gullah Celebration of the culture of descendants of sea island slaves.

Is Augusta Mall going to end up like the Regency Mall? It has
become off limits to a lot of decent people because of the risk
that a mall poses. Parking lot crime is often and the possibility
of being accosted is higher than shopping at individual stores.
The thugs have a busy place with a lot of people and a lot of
ways to disappear. Let's not forget about the man that was robbed and beaten in a bathroom in Sears. I know the Mall has
security but they can't be everywhere at one time. If you go to
the Mall, don't go alone!

I went yesterday and it was very nice. I had not been in ages and expected thugs, etc... based on what I had been reading, however it was nothing like that. I enjoyed it and felt safe.

Speaking of safety at the mall, I was at JC Pennys just before Christmas and there was not a light on in the paking lot. I told 3 different employees. It was like they did not even hear me. I even asked for a manger but of course one never even answered the call. They were to busy doing nothing as most managers do. Kinda like the one at Walmart on BJ. Every time you see him he is just standing there with his arms crossed chatting to someone. All the while the customer can not find an employee to get help. The customer service at that Walmart is horrible.But then the customer anywhere is awful. Any they wonder why they have no business.

The mall security and the Sherriff's Deputies working specials need to split up and be more pro-active. Often times, you will see deputies clumped in groups just hanging out and talking vs. patrolling as they should from store to store. You will also see them in the "non-busy" areas, again talking, often for very long and extended periods of time. I get the fact that it is human nature to hang with friends/assocaites and want to talk and also at times it is needed to disiminate information but most of the time it is simply hanging out and being lazy. Also, deputies and security do not need to patrol or walk around in pairs as they don't even have that luxury when patrolling on duty in a patrol car. Split up, walk your zones or drive the parking lots and change up the routine often. Be proactive, put down the cigarettes, be highly visible, let trouble makers know your presence, interact often wiht the public and the tenants and many of these troubles would disappear. Just because you are working a special, they aren't paying you to hang out with your friends.
Any FREAK that takes picutes up girls skirts without their knowledge, permission, etc. is a sex offender and has major issues which will manifest into other related problems.

I was in walmart just a while back and a little boy not more than 10 was following me around the store taking a video of my butt with his cell phone. When I turned around to confront him he ran, he was too young to have a cell phone anyway and he was awfully young to be a perv. Maybe it's just a little boy being a boy, but what comes next?
