What America may be coming to

  • Follow Letters

It has been interesting to see and hear the crying out for a messiah. It is both a spiritual and political need for perfection that no man can become.

We want someone to take us out of the economic and military crisis we are currently in. Our country must stop believing in handouts, political miracles and financial bailouts. "Can I have some more, please?" must be left to the mind of Dickens.

We are known as a people who work hard and pay our own way. However, we have become lazy and our children want a paycheck without working hard. We demand free medical care when it is financially impossible. We want our mortgages paid for without the money coming from our wallets. We want a free lifestyle without consequences. We want peace without protecting that peace from outside aggression.

We assume we will always be free even when the government slowly takes it away. Good government is by the people, of the people and for the people. To do otherwise our nation will perish.

Our freedoms are changing. Freedom of speech is becoming a hate crime, freedom of religion is intolerance of Christianity, freedom of press is the Fairness Act, "share the wealth" supersedes capitalism, and democracy is a socialist state of mind.

If this is our future only silence will be left.

Clifford Henning

Mr Henning: It seems the right wing has held the Presidency for 20 of the last 28 years, the House for 12 of the last 14 years and the Senate for 10 of the last 14. Be sure to direct your complaints to Mike Duncan, Chairman of the Republican National Committee.

GACopperhead

9 million more people disagree with you than agree, Mr. Henning. You want freedom of speech, but are obviously are intolerant, yourself, of those who disagree. Are you really that unsure of your faith and Almighty God that those who disagree should be silenced? Even the USSR at it's worst could not stop Christianity. China has not been able to stop religion. The heresies of many Christian denominations could possibly be causing God's wrath in order to change the hearts of those denominations and bring them back to truth. Christ has never indicated who, of the poor, should receive our help. If, as your letter hints, you are a Christian, you are mandated to see Christ in EVERY SINGLE ONE of those people that you wish to ignore. You, by your greed, strive to deprive children of food, shelter and medical care. Your form of capitalism has shown it's value for the past 2 years, 8 if your look at the total miserable growth of the GDP since 2000. Many of those who "want their mortgages paid" are the victims of the current administration's policies, which, I gather, you have supported. Well, you get what you ask for, and your votes have made sure of it.

'"Can I have some more, please?" must be left to the mind of Dickens.' ------ Bad, bad, bad analogy, as "Oliver Twist" was a comment on social change, long before socialism/communism were even thought of, but to address the extreme poverty and social decay of the industrial age England. Charles Dickens knew of the debtors prisons from first hand experienced, and was a vehicle of change within even the confines of Victorian England. No society needs to return to 1830s, again!

The hard left has spoken. See America crumble. It's our right. If you look at all of the failed socialist societies in history (all of them) you'll see that socialism leads to its own cure. It will take many decades, but America will survive and recover from this socialist surge. Or, this silly experiment will end in 4 years and America will continue to thrive.

politicallyNcorrect1

By most peoples words they think America will no longer believe that Obama can lead America by the end of his first term of 4 years. It's never going to happen, mark these words: There is not a human being on earth that can dethrone Obama. He will be there right or wrong. His report card will not be any concern to voters, he can not be beat and any of you that think otherwise that's just your wishful thinking. There have been & always will be people who can do no wrong in the eyes of the public, Obama is the most famous of all. He is golden like it or not & all the complaints & statements levied at him of socialism & any other disapproval you may have of him is as useless as the post you type. So sit back you don't have to enjoy the ride but you will on the bus riding along side the rest of us..Like it or not!

GACopperhead

PT, there is always some amount of socialism in every country and government. There always has been. Would you really like to return to the draconian principles that led to literature like Oliver Twist, David Copperfield and ultimately led, in part, to the settlement of America? It wasn't only religious freedom that led to the Pilgrims coming here. Many came out of debtors prisons. The same attitudes were shown in child labor and abuse of American workers. While many are abusing our system, they are not the majority. If you disagree, please show me facts from a neutral source. Every single one of us is only a footstep away from being in the same shoes as millions of other Americans. As much as I disagree with and dislike many of your opinions, I find it hard to believe that you are as cold, selfish and greedy as your posts make you sound.

This LTE is so idiotic it leaves many things to question: 1. When was there a case where someone said something and was arrested for a hate crime? Please provide me with one, just one single court decision where that occurred. 2. Americans aren't as lazy as this writer suggests, we have more technology to ease our lives, but some people are lazy and some aren't, just as it has ALWAYS been! (You want to talk about lazy I can recall in history when a small group of lazy planters brought the country to war). You want to talk about lazy let's look at the 20's and 30's, when the country was coming off the WW1 and a national sense of "country first" was abrew. We ignored the moral call to help our friends for several years, until finally the world brought the war to our territory Dec 7, 1941.. Prior to we knew England need our manpower, not just our equipment, we knew, or heard the rumors of genocide, we were just lazy..The thing about lazy people is this: laziness can be corrected, so it's not the end all, people at some point will get off their buttocks when necessary, those who don't aren't lazy they are ***holes who don't matter anyhows. So Mr. Henning, the country is just fine.

Motorman5039

Gacooperhead: Your comments are dead on!!! Kudos!

Motorman5039

politicallyincorrect: Your comments are dead and stuck on Nov 3, 2008. If you have been paying attention for the past 2 months you would know the left is very upset with PE Obama...He is a centralist, has always been..The left thought he was playing when he spoke about bringing people together and listening to all sides...The left, not republicans are upset...The wooing he is currently doing with republicans on "The Hill", and his choices like using Rick Warren speak to his centralist DNA....And don't associate him with those who think he is a messiah, he has never proclaimed such...Some peopple are just happy...If he was the first asian president-elect you don't think there wouldn't be fireworks going off in Chinatown? If he was the first hispanic president-elect you don't think El Paso or Los Angeles would be drunk with chicano music and littered with the spoils of busted pinatas? I wouldn't be offended, so I don't urinate on those who are happy to see an african american take the lead for a change...Anyhows, back to your jaundiced comments, you can sit and ride, but you will see you are the lazy one, the call he has put forth is for ALL AMERICANS to step up and do more...

noone

I believe that we as a society should help those who help themselves, help those who cannot help themselves and condemn those who do not or will not help themselves.

Motorman5039

patriciathomas: Hopefully in 4 your the scourge of your ignorance will be erased and your bigoted comments to boot... I an still amazed at the fact you comment daily, never missing a thread, yet you have seldom said anything worth noting...btw, socialism didn't start Nov. 4th, socialism is what's been going on ofr awhile, and in areas you could never accept, being that you are hard right...Veteran preferences= Socialism, GI Bill = Socialism, Bailouts = Socialism...Socialism is a term from the 50's, you probably were scared back then by the word, reality is that era is over, and socialism is just a term used to try and scare people..If socialism was the case, you nor I would be expressing our opinions without fear of death or imprisonment...The government has always enacted some policy to help people, btw, I have no problem with the GI Bill, just used that to make a point, but the truth is the country we reside isn't a democracy or a socialist state, it is a CAPITALISM...come out of the 50's and join the rest of us...By your comments and fear mongering you would lead peole to think they should stock up and get into a bunker...

dashiel

Bush and his neocons implemented this radical privatization and disaster capitalism. Consequently, the only solution they could come up with is socialism, plain and simple. Call it by another name, blame it on another source, but it was the Bush administraion that got us here, not Obama who will, indeed, have to be a messiah if he is to deliver us from the smouldering ruins.

ITDoc

Where are these smoldering ruins? I've sold one successful business and started yet another one in the last 8 years. I've helped employ more and more people over the last 8 years. My home values are increasing, my workload is booming, and nothing Bush did or said helped me do these things. Nothing Obama does or says will make my life turn downward. If you suffered the last 8 years, get off your gluteous and solve your own damn problems and quit with the "8 years of ruin" crap. YOU are the ruination of your own life.

Bizarro

Socialism didn't evolve till the 19th century-Owen and Leroux. It hasn't been a part of every govt. Marxism (a form of socialism) is a relatively new theory that hasn't had much success in reality. Socialism and marxism are a philosophy and theory.

devilishlymad67

what idiot truly thinks plantation owner laziness started a war in this country? go back and read the correct history not the politically correct history that is spoon fed today's society. Yes socialism is happening....it will also pass. No tax payer wants to continue carrying the deadbeats of society around. Not in troubled times. To many of us have worked hard to get where we are while those that live off the system laid on their backs. There will be an uprising, if enough people stand up and say we have had enough of the welfare system then something can be done. until then nothing will.

sirfrederick

Mr. Henning...I and many others agree with your letter but unfortunately a majority in this country and our representatives do want the Socialist agenda expanded, comments here prove that. another poster incorrectly stated that we are neither a democracy (majority rules)or socialist state (State rules) but capitalism (a financial model). We are in fact none of those. Until the lazy make the effort to learn civics, and realize we are a Republic (representative govt), we will continue down the path of self destruction.

DMac_357

There are a lot of people who feel they are well off but are only a paycheck or two away from being one of the welfare receipients who "laid on their backs." Not everyone who gets welfare is lazy and never wants to work. Sometimes circumstances get you to that point and you don't have a choice but to accept some assistance to get by. With the economy the way it is and companies laying off workers, unemployment and welfare rolls will probably swell a little. I don't agree with people receiving welfare for life and never working or trying to work but I do believe in helping people. Hopefully those of you who always complain about your tax dollars being spent on welfare or handouts never need assistance yourself.

devilishlymad67

Dmac I agree with you on some points, the ones i am referring to in my rant are the lifetime welfare people or the babymakers. I am not referring to the people that work hard and have a tradegy or such. Something must be done though or when the people that have paid into the system need it, there won't be anything there and that would not be right. That is why i said change it not discontinue it.

dashiel

ITdoc, my life is good too. I was referring to Young Snotty's legacy of deceit, dishonor, hubris and perfidy. If ONLY Bush had had sex with an intern! Instead, he merely indebted and dishonored the nation, violated the Constitution and oversaw a financial collapse. That's what I call smouldering ruins.

shivas

Mr. Henning's attitude is why the right-wing has been tossed out on their behinds. Gloom and Doom with not answers.

CH

According to Tech's post, (At 2:47 am?), it's all Bush and the Repub's fault. Oh, there goes those pigs flying again. As far as American's wanting their cake and eating it too, this isn't likely to change. Obama was elected on the gimme gimme ticket. It will be interesting to see his backers' faces when they realize he's promised far more than he can deliver. Cutting taxes and providing national healthcare just don't go hand in hand.

dashiel

But the Bush tax cuts along with his prodigal spending was okay I guess?! Okay enough to plunge the whole world into a financial black hole. Such fiscal responsibility will be hard to match.

GACopperhead

Bizarro, I disagree. There were poor houses in England, funded by the government. I'll have to do more research, but I'm sure there are other instances.

shamrock

Everybody likes to blame everything on the Preseident ... and it will continue. The problem is really with our Congress and Supreme Court.

willistontownsc

Mr. Henning is another person who is out of touch with the 21st century.

TechLover

PT could just make one comment, save it, and paste it to every post instead of going to the trouble of typing the same old same old every time.

dale88fan

i cant believe someone that lives in willistonsc is commenting about someone else being out of touch=== do you even have high speed internet yet?

CH

Tech, the same could be said of you. After all, it's all Bush and the Repub's fault...right?

disssman

I often wonder why the Chinese (they own about half of America) don't take a place in our congress to protect their investment? I mean if they have paid our politicians for us, why not tell us how they want the country run.

CH

Good point, Diss. At least the Chinese are getting their own butts kicked in this global recession. You supposed they'll put China up for sale now? Bet you could get a good deal on an egg roll factory. Anybody need a big wall?
