'The City'

PREMIERED: Dec. 29

NETWORK: MTV

AIRS: 10 p.m. Mondays

MY THOUGHTS: The City is neither a slam dunk nor a complete miss for MTV. Though it is a completely different show, The City's roots definitely speak for themselves: Whitney Port was a supporting cast member on The Hills, Lauren Conrad's second reality show about her life in L.A. In a lot of ways, this new show seems to be a desperate attempt to stretch out an already overblown franchise that began with Laguna Beach in 2004.

Like always, everything centers around fashion and guys. The drama starts less than 15 minutes into the first episode, and almost everyone plays their roles well.

However, there are some unique things about The City. For one, the show starts out on a very interesting note and definitely hits the ground running.

The main character, Whitney, is living in one of the most exciting cities in the world, working for an iconic fashion designer, and has two guys fighting over her by the second episode.

Though The City might seem frivolous or staged, it can be very entertaining. If you enjoyed Laguna Beach, 8th and Ocean or The Hills, you will definitely enjoy The City.

'Eagle Eye'

RATING: PG-13

RELEASED TO DVD: Dec. 26

MY THOUGHTS: Shia LaBeouf and Michelle Monaghan star in this action drama. Jerry Shaw (Mr. LaBeouf), a Stanford University dropout, becomes the innocent victim of the F.B.I.'s secret weapon, Eagle Eye. Rachel Holloman (Ms. Monaghan), a single mother, also comes under the jurisdiction of Eagle Eye.

Eagle Eye sets a series of tasks that the pair must complete in order to ensure their safety. Although there are some scenes that are hard to follow, there was never a dull moment. A surprise ending makes for a great movie.
