AIKEN, S.C. - Funeral service for Mr. Willie James Dunbar will be held Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 2 p.m. from the Runs Baptist Church, Beech Island, S.C. Burial will follow in the Chavous Family Cemetery. Mr. Willie James Dunbar, was born on November 28, 1932 in Barnwell County, S.C., to William and Lizzie Moody Dunbar. He departed his life at the University Hospital, Augusta, Ga., on Wednesday, January 7, 2009. He joined the Union Branch Baptist Church at an early age and was affiliated with the Indian Grove and Mt. Anna Baptist Church. He attended the Barnwell County School System and Martha Schofield High School. He retired from the New York Transit Authority after 20 years of service as a motorman. He was united in holy wedlock to Beatrice Chavous Dunbar, who preceded him in death. To this union one son was born, William Luther Dunbar, who also preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his passing: a special son, Dwayne Webb, Macon, Ga.; two sisters, Lucille Givens, Brookyln, N.Y., and Leena Stallings, Conshohocken, Pa.; one brother, Abraham (Debra) Dunbar, Graniteville, S.C.; sister-in-law, Elouise Dunbar, Bath, S.C.; two brothers-in-law, John Phinizy, Bronx, N.Y., and Delano (Delores) Chavous, Aiken, S.C.; a devoted and loving friend, Grace Harrison, Aiken, S.C.; four god-children, Leihla, James, and Clay Howard, and Aharon Dunbar; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends. Friends may call at the residence of the brother, Abraham (Debra) Dunbar, 307 Duncan Rd., Graniteville, S.C. or at Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home beginning 3 p.m., Monday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6-7 p.m. The remains will lie in state at the church Tuesday from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.
