Happy right here in the Garden City

  • Follow Letters

Just to set the record straight, Butch Palmer ("Time for moving beyond Section 8," Letters to the Editor, Jan. 3) does not speak for the majority of the residents of Richmond County. I have been a proud citizen of Richmond County for 45 years, and you couldn't pay me enough to live in Columbia County. It's just one big ugly strip mall now and apparently populated by narrow-minded people like Capt. D. Caudle ("Suggestion went over the county line," Letters to the Editor, Jan. 7). He shows his mindset by saying that first he reaches for his wallet, then his gun and lastly the Bible. Maybe if he picks up the Bible first, he will not need his wallet or his gun.

Hey JC, why not just joint

Hey JC, why not just joint Butch in his efforts to restore a historic and formerly prosperous section of town? I really can't see the downside.

Easy solution. Have Richmond

Easy solution. Have Richmond Co charge a tax on all those from other counties that work there. Should bring in plenty. Then all the "My poop doesn't stink" snobs in Col Co could belly up or go work at Target, Wal Mart, or one of the other high paying jobs there.

Tech is not expressing

Tech is not expressing "county envy". His suggestion is reality in many major cities. For example, we lived in one of the old suburbs bordering St. Louis and my husband worked at a hospital a few miles away in the city. He had to pay city tax. It's not a bad idea at all, since the people who work in RC but live elsewhere are availing themselves of taxpayer-supported services when they commute in and out every day.

midwesttransplant, once again

midwesttransplant, once again you show us why our way is better than your way. Taxing workers who travel to Richmond County is the best way to have businesses move to the suburbs. Why is it that counties that tax the least have the highest quality of life? And TechLover, what if Columbia or Aiken Counties taxed those folks from Richmond County that work at WalMart, Target, etc.? Hey, not a bad idea. We can keep the uneducated criminal minds of Richmond County our of our county. Know the high school graduation rate of Richmond County? Compare it to surrounding counties. There's your problem.

GCAP Richmond county

GCAP Richmond county graduation rate as a whole is 78%. Lets compare Evans, Lakeside, or Greenbrier graduation rates/drug cases/weapon incidents to Westside, Davidson, and AR johnson. Davidson the best school in the entire state. AR Johnson the number 3 school in the entire state. And its funny how ppl from CC never want to mention Harlem and Grovetown high graduation rates. Those schools are in Columbia county. But who cares Richmond and Columbia both will have to work together for Metro Augusta to reach its full potential.

I keep trying to tell people when visitors come to Augusta. They don't say oh Im in columbia, richmond, edgefield, aiken, mcduffie, or burke county. They just say Im in Augusta.

another poorly written,

another poorly written, rambling LTE in the Augusta Comical. Come one editors, must you print every letter that is mailed to you? This letter makes no sense; it's a waste of paper.
