"Miss Savannah River is open to all of the ladies in the state of Georgia," said Lynn Huff, pageant executive director.

The new pageant gives 11 women who've already won their hometown titles and competed in the Miss Georgia pageant another try at the state crown, she said. Contestants come from cities, including Valdosta, Columbus and Statesboro.

Miss Augusta is open to residents of six nearby counties, including Richmond and Columbia, or to women who are employed full time or attend school full time in Augusta, Ms. Huff said. Five contestants are competing. The program will also feature the fourth annual Miss Augusta Outstanding Teen contest with five contestants.

The event will begin at 6:30 at the Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre. Tickets are $15.
