Experience counts for something

First, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the citizens of S.C. House District 84 for their continued confidence in me and my representation for them in the South Carolina General Assembly. They honored me again by giving me 64 percent of the vote in the November election.

I look forward to serving my next term, which will begin my 21st year in the assembly. My record speaks for itself and clearly shows that seniority counts heavily. Our delegation exemplifies good leadership and has a strong position in the Capitol.

It is with heartfelt gratitude toward my constituency that I vow to continue using my experience, knowledge and resources to represent them.

State Rep. J. Roland Smith

House District 84

Aiken, S.C.

Term limits now!

Roland Smith was once my pastor, he IS a GOOD man, and he is a Conservative Christian. Roland is a man for ALL of the people of SC and all of the people of the 84th district. When one presents the argument that all politicians are crooks and liars, I would say to that that Roland Smith must not be a politician then! He is a man of Exemplary Charachter and Compassion. Of all of the Men of Government this Nation has known, I can for certain say that this one defines "E Pluribus Unum" more succinctly than any other ever known.

The Knave

Roland Smith is a no-nothing amateur political hack. Contrary to the comments of Tujeez, Smith is the arch-typical politician -- crook and liar. For example, he was an excellent shill for Weldon Wyatt and Texas-based developer Fine-Deering Corp. when they were trying to saddle Aiken County taxpayers with a huge debt burden to pay for the infrastructure for a 5000 unit housing development (The so-called TIF). If he had been successful in pushing that through (via special midnight-hour legislation), Aiken County would now be flat broke. You enthusiastic supporters of Smith ought to ask him how many times he's been to Weldon Wyatt's exclusive and very expensive Sage Valley Golf Club, as Wyatt's guest. Smith is a puppet of the entrenched powers, and he is hardly intelligent enough to know it. Come to think of it, that perfectly qualifies him to be a preacher, as well as a politician.

Knave, Your wealth envy is showing ravenously You might want to add an IMO or IMHO to your post, that might prevent a libel suit. . IF Aiken County HAD provided Infrastructure for 5000 housing units, How much money in increased tax revenues would the county have recieved from the increased tax digest? Think before you speak. Did the 5000 unit housing project get cancelled? Just another case of short-sighted individuals fighting inevitable progress, to the detriment of the County, and its citizens. I'm sure they rave over your expert vision knave. BTW, Roland Smith, as far as I know, doesn't play golf.

The Knave

Your naivete and pusillanimous fawning over Roland the Preacher are revealing of a severe intelligence deficiency. Your comment about the TIF, i.e., 5000 houses, is absolutely nuts. In case you hadn't noticed, NOT MANY HOUSES ARE SELLING. If Wyatt's scheme, facilitated by Preach, had gone ahead, tens of millions of dollars of roads, sewers, water lines, etc. would have been built at taxpayer expense. And, the handful of houses that exist on the property today would have been built. So, where would the money be coming from to service the $50 million or so bond issue? The answer: From all of the taxpayers that don't live in Fine-Deering-ville. Re Preach's golfing habits: Yeh, when I confronted him face-to-face about his connections with Wyatt and his visits to the Wyatt resort property, after some hemming and hawing, the only thing Preach could think of to say was: "I don't play golf." This answer, of course, was a non-answer, since he didn't address my challenging him about his sweetheart relationship with Wyatt, and his pushing through the midnight-hour legislation in Columbia that enabled the crooked deal to get as far as it did. I know of what I speak, and you do not.
