EDITOR'S NOTE: The Augusta Chronicle invited students to write letters to President-elect Obama detailing what they would like him to do as president. The newspaper received more than 400 entries. Selected letters are being printed in The Chronicle and posted online at augustachronicle.com/president.
Grand-prize winners in the elementary, middle and high school divisions will be published the week of Mr. Obama's inauguration. After the inauguration, the letters will be mailed to the White House.
Dear President-Elect Obama,
I'm so glad you're my soon-to-be president. My name is Derrick Wright and I am black. I plan to be successful just like you, but I need you to take some action on some things.
First of all I think you should demolish the Ku Klux Klan. I have heard they are out to kill you. Save yourself!! Save future presidents (that are black of course)!!!
Another thing is women's pay. They are not getting paid as much as men. Stop it now. If it grows, what'll happen to your daughters?
A good boy,

Dear Mr. President,
First I want to congratulate you on becoming our 44th president. It was exciting to me especially because you were very nice.
I'll keep it simple. First I want to talk about my education. I hope there is money to put into new schools and improve old schools. And I want to talk about the war. All I will say is please end it soon. Another thing is safety in America. Please don't let anyone hurt us. I also want to talk about the houses, jobs, but I guess that will be taken care of when you fix the economy.
Finally I want to say I love my family. I love my church, and if you love yours you're gonna work.
Sincerely,
Tavia Robinson

Dear Mr. President,
I would like you to put policemen by every school in the world because I saw in the news that a 6-year-old boy brought a gun to school. Other people are losing their jobs and their homes and their habitat, and animals are losing their homes, too, like people are.
From,
