Willie, I sincerely hope your plea will fall on receptive ears. It is long past time for black leaders, at the grass roots level, to come forward and address the problems that are destroying the black community's nation wide. Good luck, sir!
I would like to know where our so-called "black leaders" in Augusta are?
Our black brothers and sisters need your leadership now, but you are nowhere to be found!
Where are our black commissioners? The people of Cherry Tree Crossing need you now.
Please try to help my people. We need you.

Willie, I sincerely hope your plea will fall on receptive ears. It is long past time for black leaders, at the grass roots level, to come forward and address the problems that are destroying the black community's nation wide. Good luck, sir!
For many years, black leaders in Augusta have been a disgrace to their own kind with their shabby accomplishment and their noble promise, State Senate Ed Tarver
I see the result of the black leaders in our community. The church on Wrightsboro Rd that is encouraging improvement through education and discouraging teen pregnancy, the 100 Black Men programs in Augusta and Aiken, and the "lead through example" people like the new tax assessor. People have to find their leaders, not just wait for someone to come to their house and drag them to the parade.
Things will get better when the black preachers put Christ before color. Encouraging people to vote for someone who thinks killing babies and gay sex is acceptable shows they don't believe the Word. The level ground for all races is at the foot of the cross not in Washington, DC. Christian leaders are what is needed even if they were purple or green. Sin has always been the problem; never color. Without the love of Christ in a any race of people there is no hope for them in this life or the one to come.
The black leaders of Augusta did extend thier hands and leadership to Cherry Tree Crossing residents. Thier Commissioner Corey was there the next morning of the incident and several church leaders met at Good Shepard Baptist Church to evaluate thier community crisis. Cool heads prevailed as a result, they even had a peaceful demonstration as aopposed to throwing bottles at police and setting fires. Cherry Tree Crossing residents need to decide for themselves if they want to allow drug dealers & prostitutes to dominate every street corner. The message is this "If you make Cherry Tree Crossing your home, accept responsibility for its image". There is nothing wrong with calling the police on folks selling drugs at your door steps, especially since the people doing the buying are coming from other communities. Take responsibility & facilitate change so that the children and everyone that lives there will be safer, to do anything else would be foolish!! I don't need anyone to come to my home & tell me to keep my family safe. If there is a danger or threat to my lifestyle, I accept responsibility for addressing it, not wait on my pastor or anyone to knock at the door.
soldout... Are you kidding us? Blacks love God. Or maybe you are suggesting that God only loves certain races? Abortion was legal under a white Conservative President to. Did Bush suspend abortion for eight years and now Obama will enact it again? I don't think this is a political issue, but I do feel this is a call to action for a community of people that need to help facilitate change in thier own community.
Wow.....I totally agree with cparkers 6:46 post.
Papa Dent was the last black leader that I can remember. The other signifers were .. "fer self."
I agree with the writer of this article. I have said too often our(black) leaders only show up when the lights, cameras and news media are present but once the lights are no longer shining our leaders retreat back to thier offices. Yes we have to accept responsibility for our actions, but the essence of leadership is the serve the people God has charged you with serving and not the other way around. We need our leadership more today than every before. We have to do something in our community and do it fast or we will continue to see our young men entering prision and the grave yards daily. There is no excuse nore exception for true leadership. If you don't want to be a leader especially the pastors and our do nothing elected officials, then be honest, get a job and stop pimping the people you are charged with serving.
Where are you at Marion Williams? Time to come forward and do some more rabble rousing.
Willie, Did you forgett we are all Gods people. Why can't Black and White leaders come together and help Augusta move forward, we need a change in thinking to help each other.
Willie: Exactly what are YOU doing to better the situation? Why is it necessary for you to sit back and wait for someone else to clean up you community? Instead of whining and sitting on your hands, you and the residents of your community should take POSITIVE action towards ridding the fless from your area!
Whenever a black leader emerges and says crazy things like "Stay in school", or "get a job", or "marry first, then start a family", or "criminals have no place in our community", They are chastized, and run out of the community. That's why you continue to have media pimps like al sharpton and jessie jackson as your leaders. Maybe Hussein will motivate the black community to pull itself out of the cess pool that it has created.
Steve-O, great post. You really told it like it is. Don't count on the last part of your post to happen, though. It's much easier to point fingers at whitey and blame him for all the problems in the black community rather than face facts. Bill Cosby found that out the hard way.
Steve-o your 10:28am post is funny, but the black commmunity is not in a cess pool. Just the Media black folks are. It is a shame that what most people know about black people is from what they see on T.V.
Justus, I never thought I'd agree with you, until now. Marcus Garvey was right in 1929. African-Americans have a high dropout rate from high school as well as a high illegitimate birthrate. And, instead of acknowledging these problems, all black leaders can do is point fingers and say it's all whitey's fault. Bill Cosby tried to point this out, and look what it's gotten him. Thanks, Justus...good post.
Why do people always want to wait on leaders to come and rescue them? If you see something that needs to be done, you go do it. Yeah, it's going to take some of your time and might even take some of your money but that's still better than sitting back and complaining that nobody's coming to help. Justus4, I hear what you're saying but I don't agree with your Garvey quote. I don't believe the people deserve poor leadership, black or white. Remember the old saying, "If you want something done, you've got to do it yourself," maybe we should think on that. In Isaiah 6:8, the Lord asked Isaiah who would go and be a messenger to the people and Isaiah said, "here I am, send me." Maybe we should have that same line of thinking.
I had great black leaders. I called them Mother/Father. Good old logic: get a education, get an job, when you run out of money your broke, nothing wrong with layaway. Money does not equal peace of mind. Love conquers all. Whenever someone get's you to arguing about trival issues (ie. Augusta Chronicle) follow the money and who is benefiting. How can we have civil conversations about being progressive in the Augusta area when people are still [filtered word] about Obama's election (but wear masks). Willie Davis Jr. are you kidding me? No self respecting person would make such a self loathing comment as this. You want to make things better 1. Teach at a GED program 2. Donate some time at Golden Harvest, 3. Urban Ministries could use a donation 3. Raise your children to be productive citizens 4. Get a backbone...... because you sound like an uncle tom.
CH you must be a member of a secret society because you posted several comments that commended other wrongheaded posted comments on this page;I see you are a yes-man.
Since I moved back here,it seems as though the only time they come out if someone famous comes here first!I think it's all about getting getting paid and basically if if it's not about them, they don't really care!
We definitely need honest God fearing leaders to emerge. The Justin Elmore case is a great cause for them to show their worth and make sure justice is served. They can make sure all the facts are brought out, and not sit by quietly; and make sure the deputy's show respect for all citizens of Augusta regardless of Social Economic Status. They don't harass the people at the certain Caucasian social hangouts that they know are drinking and driving and or doing drugs. Then put programs and the right people in place that will assist troubled youth in all neighborhoods. Most don't want to deal with the kids that are rough around the edges, and some reside in your neighborhood. We must stop fooling ourselves like troubled kids only reside in the black neighborhoods. Tubman's principal has done an awesome job with the kids at that school. He works with the best to the so called worst. These are the type of leaders we need that focus on getting the job done, not playing politics and worry about who is looking. Those are just some of the things that we need from all leaders regardless of ethnicity, but especially the black leaders. Godly decisions equal to decisions for the people.
This letter is a joke right?...Good grief Charlie Brown aka Willie Davis you have passed way beyond the bend in the road and down the cliff into lala land...Where are the black leaders? My word man they are the ones who are running the show now...The problem is that they see colors not the problems at hand...That is is problem...To all else who want to put a pretty little spin on this letter "stuff it"...Liberalism, family unity non-existent, morality down the tubes, divorce rates soars in some areas, in others areas those stats don't exist due to people just living together... Most of all people have tried and for the most part are still seeking to prove they can live without God in the picture...Well you can't and thus we have extreme social problems resulting in our children's children being desensitized to the meaning of revering life as well as living upright decent hard working lives instead of living of another's dime...Willie as long as the blacks want their own kind to stand up and be counted as good hard working Americans but fail to make them responsible citizens well there you have it...
