Grand-prize winners in the elementary, middle and high school divisions will be published the week of Mr. Obama's inauguration. After his installation as the 44th president of the United States, the letters will be mailed to the White House.

Dear Mr. President,

Now that you are the new president of the United States of America, you have the power to change things. That is why I am confronting you about some issues that I think need some help from you. I know that you have been debating about taking the troops out of Iraq. My opinion on that issue is that right now Iraq still needs us. If we just took everyone out of Iraq then it would become very vulnerable and would have a very high chance of getting another dictator. This would ruin everything that we have been working for and what our soldiers have been fighting for. I know that we want our family and friends back home, but right now we cannot lose what we have achieved. If we did lose it, chances are that we would be triggered into another war, and that would be worse than waiting just a little bit longer to bring home the troops. Thank you for your time, Mr. Obama.

Sincerely,

Dear Mr. President,

I think you should try to help people who are poor. You should provide every state with three community centers. You should make more shelters for homeless people. You should build more hospitals. You should have people at every store holding boxes. The boxes are for when people come out of the store they can donate something. You should come to Meadowbrook, my school, to see how we need your support. We need more classrooms. We need new computers. We need more activities. This is another thing I was worried about. Iraq people are the main people that need our and your support. Remember all of those speeches you made? Are you really going to do it or make a change? Please write back. Thanks, Mr. Obama.

Sincerely,

It is always interesting to see how parental opinions are absorbed by children.

Dear Augusta Chronicle... please stop running these idiotic non-stories.

karenlyss

These stories are not idiotic but very enlightening, interesting and is another way for the media to engage the community. News coverage expands beyond the media talking to us and should be an outlet for hearing back from the community. These are stories worth sharing and are much appreciated by readers like me and the many others who've left positive comments. if you don't like or appreciate them then don't read them

All of you downing these children should be SLAPPED!! My daughter goes to Lewiston and is in the 5th grade...she also had to write a letter to Mr. Obama...and did so WITHOUT MY HELP. I only proof read the letter after it was written. It was a well written as many of these. You who don't believe that these children can write these are ignorant! Children are much smarter then you are giving them credit for. Back off! Give these children some credit and quit hating that they are more informed and smarter then some of YOU!
