Mrs. Crawford, from a former teacher, I must say your comments demand respect because you are obviously "long in the tooth," dear, and you surely have the experience and understanding with which to make an intelligent comment. Bless you! GGpap.
The election of Barack Obama as president means self-worth, dignity, respect and a change of attitude for all races. His election means so much to the nation, especially to me as a teacher.
In 1940, for example, I used to ask each child in my class, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
One little boy raised his hand and said, "I want to be president of the United States." Before I could respond, his seat mate said, "You know no black person can be president."
As a teacher I told him he could be anybody, even the president, if he got a good education and worked hard. I felt I had to encourage my students even though I didn't believe my own words.
I am glad that what I thought was a lie has become true in my lifetime. It means healing and forgiveness for inhumanity in deeds such as the time we had to use outdated books and materials from the white schools.
There was a child who could not register for class because she was too white to get in a black school even though she lived with a black family. School principals in Richmond County were told they'd be fired immediately if they registered a white child in a black school or a black child in a white school.
The family was told to get a birth certificate and they got one that stated "Race unknown." So the child was not accepted in any school.
Black teachers were paid less than white teachers, even though they had more pupils in their classrooms. The school superintendent referred to black teachers as "girls" and whites as "ladies."
Obama represents all people. He was elected by all the people too. Now the people must help him achieve the American dream for all of us.

I was watching Will Smith on the Oprah show a couple of weeks ago. He said the same thing as Ms. Crawford and Oprah agreed with him. Two billionaires are now free to succeed in America because Obama is elected president. I didn't understand and turned the show off in disgust.
These were some great comments from Ms. Crawford. There is no gain in negative comments and always being an old stick in the mud all the time. (previous post) Now, you have a blessed day.
It is historic that we have elected a black president. Unfortunately we have chosen one who is an admitted cocaine, pot & heroin user. We have chosen one who has repeatedly lied about his past, who was a 20 year member of a racially charged church that seems to hate America. We have chosen one who has many friends who are terrorists. We have chosen one who based his entire campaign on lies & deceit. We have chosen one who may not have America's best interest at heart. And even worse, we have chosen one who has benefitted from a hidden agenda by the media. It amazes me what an empty suit who reads a speech real pretty can be promoted to. Yes, it is truly historic
One day we may have a black President. PEBO is half & half ... raised by a white mother. If white were the minority in this country Obama would be claiming to be white!
We have chosen one who can get us out of the mess created in the last 8 years. We have one chosen by a majority of the American people. We can only wish him well because we love our country and our fellow man. HELLO! HELLO! There is a light at the end of the tunnel. It is truly historic. Now, have a blessed day. I'm so excited about the future and the next 8 years. HELLO! HELLO!
Shamrock: Why be an old stick in the mud?
You too can be part of this history making process. Its not to late to order you commenative coins to show to your grandchildren and you can tell them that you did participate in that small way. I understand the coins are going pretty fast. Now, have a blessed day as always. HELLO! HELLO!
Ms. Crawford, even though I didn't support him, I am glad for one thing the Obama election has done. Using the race card, claiming that a black man can't get a fair shake in this racist country, is now gone. On November 4, 2008, a man of African heritage with an Arab name was elected to the highest office in the land, and he did it with a majority of white votes. I no longer have to sit back and accept the insults about how this racist country will never allow a black man to succeed. Those days are gone forever. And, if Obama falls on his butt and is voted out in 4 years, I won't listen to this garbage either. Thank you, President Elect Obama. Free at last...free at last!
It is time for Change, time to change that tune of a black man can't get no where. Stop the affirmative action and lets all go to work.
Mrs. Crawford, while I agree with what you say about the education system of the past. There is no excuse for anyone not getting an education today, Some people have to get rid of their mental block and shun the attitude by black students that if you get an education you are "acting white" and als the gang banger attitude by white, black, hispanic and all races of students.
Bill Clinton will always be the first "Black President". He is more black than Obama. Everyone suffers some pain or injustice but the answer is not restitution, revenge, or making amends but forgiveness.

JTF, you are hilarious this morning! G'Day to all you lovely birds and Gruffy old blokes.
jack234 ... you have a problem with the truth??
If Obama fails to live up to all the hype and promises he made during the next four years (and he will fail because we can't afford them) then it will be a very long time before another AA will win that coveted seat. In a way he has done a disservice to all AA and other non-whites.
Mgroot, Obama can't fail. Haven't you heard? He's Supaman!
shamrock, the truth has never bothered jack234. He's posted numerous times and has never let it color any of his remarks.
Sadly if the actions or success or failure of another person have that much effect on your life....you are in the wrong life.
Ms. Crawford must be at least 86 years old. And she lived through every bit of the stuff that is going on in America.
I think it's great that a black man was elected as President. It shows that racism in this Country is coming to an end.
I just wish it wouldnt of been Obama. He is not a natural born citizen, He has a birthright to Kenya/Great Britain. A natural born citizen is someone that is born to two U.S. Citizens. Obama's father was Kenyan, he never held U.S. Citizenship. Our forefathers where very clear that they did not want anyone with split loyalties to become President.
Our Constitution is in jeopardy.

The video is part of a presentation that I made for Congressman Tom Cole. I personally delivered this to his office in Norman, Oklahoma. The audio comes from a true Patriot, a Vietnam Vet from Arizona.
Thank you Mrs. Crawford for your letter. I really enjoyed reading it.
