Attack on Second Amendment

  • Follow Letters

It is apparent that your front page photo box with President-elect Obama and the quote from Charity Porter about stopping people from having guns is yet another assault on Second Amendment rights -- very blatant, in fact.

This letter will never see print, will it?

With all the coins, plates and other things that are now being made to honor Obama I wish someone would offer some toilet paper with his likeness on it so I could make a my contribution to his presidential election every time I wipe my butt.

Children are killed by more guns than anything else in this country! When will you soft-on-crime f***ers bashing Obama for his record on gun control get that through your thick skulls?

That third grade student is

That third grade student is merely reciting the liberal mantra she is being taught in our public (NEA) school system. It's merely a good photo opportunity for the great and merciful Obama. But be there no mistake, the democrats and their deep pocketed social reconstructionist supporters (G. Soros & Co.) dream of the day when individual ownership of firearms is eliminated.

Everyone here seems to support First Ammendment rights. Why is it so difficult to understand rights provided by the second?

Why do you think Obama has

Why do you think Obama has always opposed civilian gun ownership? Obviously it's because guns kill people, and he values life! Right? Ask your teacher about that, Charity.

If you want to blame someone

If you want to blame someone for all the gun killings over the years, blame the NRA. These irresponsible people and their policy of unlimited guns of any type for anybody regardless of any past records are what's responsible, and you morons who support this are part of the problem -- definitely not part of the solution. Look at many other countries where there are strong gun control laws - even prohibition on owning a firearm - and look at the difference in crime rates and murders. You cretins can insult Obama as much as you want, but many of us support stronger gun control laws and my guess is about half of you making these comments wouldn't be able to get a gun. My proposal for a quick solution to the violence is to allow guns, but make bullets $10,000 each . . . .

Yeah Former Augusta, those

Yeah Former Augusta, those crime rates in gun-ban countries have really moved. UP that is, in Australia, since the ban, crime has shot up 400% in the first year since the ban. IF YOU WANT REAL FACTS, look to Kennasaw, GA. They require by law that every citizen of legal age own and carry a gun. The also have to have instruction on how to use it. You don't read about much crime there.

Go to Chicago and check on

Go to Chicago and check on the murders, and crime rate, in that city alone. There were more murders in Chicago than in Iraq. That's just one city in the state of IL. And where is O from? Just think about what we have to look forward to. The state of IL is going bankrupt, schools are in the tank, taxes are high, high dropout rates, roads are horrible and the crimes/murder rates are high. Hang on, it's going to be one heck of a ride.

Former Augusta (glad it's

Former Augusta (glad it's former), if you are gong to blabber about the NRA, try blabbering some facts. The NRA does NOT support gun ownership by those with police records/criminals/ mentally ill. There is nothing in the second amendment that prohibits what kinds of guns citizens can own-the socialist DIMs in Congress are the ones assuming they have that power. Thank God the SCOTUS shoved it where the sun don't shine by you and your ilk on this subject.

Very sad media coverage in

Very sad media coverage in Augusta; this is very prejudicing coverage of the Elmore case if I must say. WRDW and the Chronicle continue prosecute Justin Elmore in the public eyes. Some are not that gullible and easy to judge another race or social economic status group as you think. Intelligent people understand hoe the media works. Just because the officers said he tried to run him over, does not make it truth. In the case in Atlanta where the officers shot the elderly African American Lady, one cop was found guilty of lying to cover up his part in the shooting. There are good officers and bad officers, as there are well trained officers and not so well trained officers. These officers don't have the right to play judge, jury and executioners. The trend in America with the minorities being shot in automobiles is to say he used his vehicle as a weapon. Are we to believe that all these guys accused, are attempting to murder an officer to get away? These attacks against Mr. Elmore's family and his non-violent criminal record are a direct insult of our intelligence. We want to know what really happened in Cherry Tree Crossing; may we please have the facts.

WOW...I can't believe the

WOW...I can't believe the bile being spewed on this board. Folks: Gun ownership is never going away. No one in our government that even remotely attempted to pull that over on the people would ever get anywhere. The Assault Weapons Ban failed to garner enough support in either house to pass, and you're worried about Obama taking your guns away? Sounds like paranoia to me. Personally, I would like to see tougher scrutiny in obtaining weapons. Some people are too stupid, insane, or immoral to own a gun. I'd also like to see the death penalty attached to crimes like robbery, rape, and murder comitted by convicted felons with guns. Same goes for people who commit murder with a car while intoxicated, wife beaters, and child molesters. Eliminate them from the gene pool...

jack: Yes the

jack: Yes the NRA(Non-Responsible Americans) believe that you should be able to own any type of gun even fully auto (how about giving your kid a Thompson sub-machine gun or MAC 10 for X-mas?) They have fought gun registration laws and continue to fight the gun show loophole in existing law. Many of the problems now exist due to the previously slack laws (guns have a long shelf life) and the fact that even if you live where gun control is stricter, you can go to a neighboring state where they are slack. Nearly 1 in every 3 guns traced by federal agents in 2006 and 2007 during crime investigations was purchased in a state other than where the crime was committed. The top sources for guns used in crimes in another state were Georgia, Florida, Texas, Virginia, California, Ohio, North Carolina, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Alabama. We can be proud. Georgia finally leads the nation in something. Proper registration and background checks are not an infringement on the 2nd Amendement and sure make a lot of sense. I'm not anti-gun (I own 6), I just believe we need commom sense in our gun laws.
