FAA AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Thursday, January 1, 2009, at University Hospital, Mr. Arlie M. Bass, 88, beloved husband of the late Bertha Holsonback Bass. Mr. Bass was a native of Clarks Hill, SC and had resided in Augusta for 49 years. Mr. Bass served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and retired from the Federal Aviation Administration. He was a member of the American Merchant Marine Veterans, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, American Legion Post 178 and the CSRA Computer Society. Mr. Bass was also a charter member of Green Meadows Country Club, past President of South Augusta Optimist Club, and an avid Amateur Radio Operator (Ham). Mr. Bass was a member of Fleming Baptist Church and the Martin Cave Sunday School Class. Family members include his son: Dr. J. David Bass (Renee) of Augusta, daughters: Sandra Jennings (Jim) of Memphis, TN, Joy Johnson (Ronny) of Martinez, Cindy Kucela (John) of Grovetown; grandchildren: Carla (Matthew) Mabie, Lisa (Barry) Willis, Jamie Bass, Kathleen (Michael) Cantey, Jennifer (Jae) Kroger, Kayla Kucela, Mallory (Andrew) Pitts, Misty (Sam) Ftorek, Kenny (Kelli) Johnson; great-grandchildren: Lauren and Kyle Mabie, Savannah, Aiden, and Zachary Willis, Gracie and Bryce Cantey, Carlie and Laythen Pitts, Ariana and Savo Ftorek, Cody and Alexis Johnson. Funeral services will be held today, Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at Fleming Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Atkins officiating. Pallbearers will be Jamie Bass, Barry Willis, Michael Cantey, Jae Kroger, Kevin Richards, and Brent Richards. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Martin Cave's Sunday School Class. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fleming Baptist Church Building Fund, 3027 Peach Orchard Rd., Augusta, GA 30906.
