Are these programs about who gets credit? I must have missed something.
Maybe it's just me, but I find the whole James Brown Toy and/or Turkey Giveaway a bit disconcerting.
It is my understanding that neither Mr. Brown (i.e., his foundation) nor his family actually provide the turkey or the toys. It is the largess of the good citizens and merchants of the CSRA that provides these needy people with these gifts.
I certainly appreciate the late Mr. Brown and others for providing their time and good will; however, perhaps it should be called the James Brown Augusta Community Toy/Turkey Giveaway.
It seems that those who really sacrifice to provide for the needy get little recognition. It is odd that those who really deserve credit so rarely seek it.

James Brown organized this, he was there at the giveaways when he was alive so it should remain named for him. If the sponsors who provide the food/toys want credit they can stary their own or at least speak up ... like slap some stickers on the turkeys. Geezzz ... what a bunch of whiney people
No, I have to agree with the letter writer. I like Brown's music, but find no reason to lionize a wife-beating celebrity who did PCP and ran from the cops. Brown got credit as if HE provided the goods. Let all those who participate in this wonderful charity get the credit, or let none of the participants receive it, and remain anonymous.
Oh, and how many times did his possessions get sold to pay for tax evasion? Probably only second to Willie.
Man can the man rest in peace? Who give a damn what it is called? I doubt that Jerry Lewis donate all the money that is collected during his telethon, but he name is given top billing. Geez!
Do you think James Brown did his own taxes?
Yeah, [filtered word], you are some big fan all right.
GaC is just a racist.

Riiiiiight, that's what I am, PT. I voted for Obama. I am not a racist. I said I like his music, but I am NOT a fan of HIM. I believe that a man's actions speak for his character, and I can't abide a wife-beater. It is second only to pedophilia in my book. Taxes are another matter. They rank pretty low with me, lol. Hypo, if you have ever watched Jerry Lewis, he always makes a huge deal about the donors. I recall seeing Brown on TV, and don't remember ever hearing him thank the donors. If I'm wrong, I'll eat my words and apologize.
GACopperhead maybe I am mistaken but I believe patriciathomas meant that as a sarcastic remark...
thanks christian134, all forms of humor seem to pass over GaCs head. I thought his reply was funny, even if he didn't mean it that way. I didn't know if you were an Obama supporter you couldn't be a racist.
OK, PT! Guilty as charged. Sometimes, even I, make a mistake. J/K!!!
Don't forget that your most fervent segregationsist racists in the south were almost always Democrats.
