AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Veterans Administration Uptown Division, Dr. Ranzy Stinson Weston, Sr. of Summerchase Circle. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 2, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. from Tabernacle Baptist Church with Reverend Charles E. Goodman, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olive Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends this evening from 6:00 -7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Dr. Ranzy Stinson Weston, Sr. was born on March 19, 1921, in Columbia, South Carolina to the late English Weston, Sr. and Dr. Annie Bell Stinson Weston. Dr. Weston began his primary education in the public schools of Columbia, SC and completed junior high school and high school in New York City, NY while his mother pursued her studies at New York University. He graduated from DeWitt Clinton High School, New York City, in 1938. Dr. Weston continued his education at his beloved South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and played on the varsity basketball team. His college days were interrupted by three years of service overseas where he proudly served his country as a first sergeant in the United States Army during WWII. While in the service, Dr. Weston traveled much of Europe. Upon returning to the states, Dr. Weston graduated from SC State and went on to complete his medical studies in 1952 at Howard University, College of Medicine, in Washington, D.C., followed by an internship at Gallinger Municipal Hospital in the nation's capital. In 1953, he opened a private family medicine practice in Aiken, SC and later moved it to Augusta, GA where he continued to serve his community until closing the practice in 1992. A devoted community servant, Dr. Weston was actively engaged in several organizations until his health failed. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta for most of his adult life; a Life Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; and a member of the National Medical Association; Georgia State Medical Association; the Stony Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Society; Blue Cross Blue Shield Family Medicine Board; Sportsman Boat Club; Royal Aikenites and the Ambassadors Bridge Club. Dr. Weston was preceded in death by two daughters, Paulette D. Weston and Loretta B. Bryant; one sister Edith W. Bowles; and two brothers Albert Weston, Sr. and English Weston, Jr. He leaves to mourn his passing a devoted wife, Frances Brown Weston of Augusta, GA; one brother: Dr. Paul D. (Ida) Weston of North Augusta, SC; seven children: Dr. Andolyn B. (Edward) Harrison of Grambling, LA; Pamela W. (A.J.) Gardner of College Park, GA; Dr. Denise W. Smith of Augusta, GA; Ranzy S. Weston, Jr. of Centreville, VA; Dr. Danly P. (Jocelyn) Weston of Ft. Washington, MD; Jordan E. (Gwendolyn) Weston of Conyers, GA; and Neta W. (Gregory) Harris of Orangeburg, SC; eleven grandchildren: Summer B. Weston; Amena W. Smith; Autumn A. Weston; Marcus V. Smith; Michael W. Smith; Kylie E. B. Weston; Ranzy S. Weston, III; Dawnly A. Weston; Wynter M. Weston; David G. Harris and Ricky G. Bryant, II; one great grandson: Jayden W. Davis; and a beloved host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
